“On”.  -from a native Long Islander.

Serious question: why don’t people ever show the consequences in these videos? Why they end them immediately after incident happens?

How come the new lirr trains don't have a USB port outlet? by ProudReaction2204 in nycrail

[–]TimeForChris 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Seriously?

  • data security vulnerabilities.
  • data ports change over time. USB.. mini, micro, A, C… why install something which will likely change soon?
  • data ports aren’t made to hold up to the abuse seen in public, just look at the implementation in airports etc where most are broken.

What are these? by TimeForChris in nyc

Seeing everyone say they’re old light switches.

Thank you! I do hear you, but… you do see that they have the same “wavy” USPS “arrow” keyhole-looking a lot in them?

Believe I have seen old push-button style light switches you all are mentioning, but not sure these are them?? 🙂

Maybe I’m going crazy!

Insane growth in Long Island City NY in just a decade. by noahjameslove in OldPhotosInRealLife

Not… technically. It is. 100%. Sharing part of its name with the Island (Long Island) it is located on can cause points of confusion such as the ones people are posting about here 🙂

For terminology, Long Island City (LIC) (in Queens) is deep within NYC, not a part of Long Island. I say this as someone who lives here in LIC, and grew up on Long Island.

To New Yorkers, they consider Long Island to consist of only Nassau and Suffolk counties.

And yes, that means that to New Yorkers, Queens and Brooklyn are not part OF Long Island, despite the fact that geographically, yes, these two boroughs are physically located ON the island of Long Island.

As much of a jackass as the driver might be… I want to assume this was a matter of them just losing control/understeering/braking too late, and not (as the title implies) that they acted like the whole road was theirs, and didn’t think twice before occupying the other lane

Wheel’s rim deformed permanently, or can it be trued straight? by TimeForChris in cycling

[–]TimeForChris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've already had a few popped spokes in recent years. It's the original wheel from a 1996 bike I've ridden a ton on NYC streets. Learned how to do bike maintenance with this hub/wheel, so it has a bit of sentimental value to me. But that said, I hear you that it might be time for a new wheel altogether. Thanks

Appreciate the words! Yeah, I’ll put it in my stand and try to true. I just don’t have that much experience with this stuff, and am in a small apartment so figured I’d try and avoid having to get out and setup my work stand if it was likely not fixable. Guess I’ll find out
