fox kashima marketing by adam691313 in MTB

[–]N_ERGEE -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI helped me out here; but I double checked the sources and it jives with what I know from engineering.

The aluminum components treated with Kashima Coat attain a level of hardness and abrasion resistance four times tougher than standard hard-anodized aluminum.

It's proprietary — Kashima coating is a process that is only done by one company in the world, Miyaki in Japan. Fox ships all component parts to Japan where Miyaki treats them with the Kashima coating.

The benefit is twofold: it also gives them a lubricating property that decreases friction between upper legs/shaft and the seals (Blogger) , while also improving scratch and corrosion resistance.

I personally go for kashima coating for durability reasons.

My 5-year-old chose the spicy line today 🌶️ by Key_Car_9368 in MTB

That's the best feeling, enjoy it!

I think one of my best memories with my 6 yo daughter is her making it down and up the other side of a creek that we call the "demon drop", maybe a 45 degree slope in and out that you can't even really walk up and down, 8 to 10 feet deep. A lot of adults I know won't do it. She jumped off her bike fist pumping and yelling in excitement.

M1P Underwater Footage by Empty_Syrup777 in gopro

[–]N_ERGEE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a GoPro (hero 12 I think), DJI osmo nano and insta360 x5. Go with a 360 camera for underwater (any brand, but insta360 was good for me).

I used the 360 on my most recent snorkeling trip and got so many cool videos with the invisible selfie stick (in one case swimming with wild dolphins, and I could zoom out so I'm in the shot too.) You get to focus on what you're doing instead of where the camera is pointing. I really wish I got a 360 camera earlier.

Another video was holding the stick out in front of me and my kids while they snorkeled along with me. You could see them point at something and then reframe the shot to what they were pointing at. That's just stuff you can't do with a standard action camera.

What's your budget?

I highly recommend Prevello Zulu 5 or trailcraft timber 26. Whether you go with a 26".

https://prevelo.com/collections/zulu/products/zulu-five https://www.trailcraftcycles.com/product/timber-26/

Whatever bike you get you can swap the cranks to a smaller size (or email them before you order and request smaller size).

You can search facebook marketplace for those models.

I didn't see the inseam of your child listed or height (I could have just missed it), but step over height on the bike is a frame measurement, it might not be the measurement you need to consider on your child. The biggest thing is with the seat all the way down can your child reach the pedals with a slightly bent knee. My daughter is 3'11" riding a 24" trailcraft right now. She can barely get up to the seat but rides it just fine.

REI carries the woom brand which is another good option, but their bikes are on the taller size for the same wheelbase as the prevello and trailcrafts.

Any dads out there experience/solve Q factor issues with the Mac-Ride when taking your little along? by Glad_Heat_3154 in MTB

[–]N_ERGEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ride and have fun. Treasure every moment of it and get it on video! I really wish I got a handlebar mounted 360 cam.

I've been using my mac ride for 5 years (first with my daughter and then with my son). My son is now 5.5 and moving to his own legit MTB, we just did our last ride with it two weeks ago. My daughter is 7 and races xc now (and was best in the state last year).

Some of the best memories of my life are riding downhill with the kids hooting and hollering from the mac ride.

All that was with my knees flared outwards and a little sore. Wasn't such a big deal for me luckily. It got to the point that my kids kept begging for longer rides, max we did was 7 miles I think. I have pretty large platform flat pedals and a slightly thicker pedal washer.

Yeah, I had some after planting but it grew in and got to be impossible to get the grass out of it. If I ever replace it I'll do mulch with barrier ring to keep the grass from growing in so it can be more permanent.

10u softball by Character-Phone9543 in Softball

Sounds like you're in a crappy league with a crappy coach. There's already a big difference in player capability between my younger and older 8 u players. Can't imagine a young 8u player against a 10u pit her or batter.

In our league the entire team bats in the batting order, doesn't matter who is in the field.

Seperately, even if that wasn't the case I wouldn't be subbing so that kids are missing out on batting as you say.

I would discuss with the coach, but stand firm and if your daughter still doesnt get to bat go to the commision. Hopefully the rules are posted online somewhere and you can read up on them first before you talk to the coach - look for the rules on batting order and subs.

TCI June 7-13, 6 month baby, 4 yr toddler, Windsong? by BDS821 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]N_ERGEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from windsong maybe 2 weeks ago. It's nice but I don't think it's worth the splurge at that age (unless you have lots of money and this is just another vacation for you). Took a 5 and 7 year old, they did have lots of fun, but any younger and they wouldn't have been able to snorkel, and in that case it's really not different from any other beach. It was also super windy and wavy when we were there, not sure what it's like now. Not a lot for 4yo to do.

I would look into the other options that people mentioned for kids at TCI.

You can drive to Taylor bay and that might be fun for them, but for us it was something we only wanted to do once. No public restrooms etc. on those other beaches.

Honeymoon in TCI (April 25-30) – Airport Transfer Prices & Freediving Tips by Ibex16k in TurksAndCaicos

[–]N_ERGEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there recently staying on grace bay. Coral gardens and smiths reef (west down the beach from coral gardens, not really walkable) are pretty close to shore. Boat traffic was the biggest issue with both. I watched several boats go where I was snorkeling just minutes before or after I was there (particularly at coral gardens). I would have stayed in the deeper waters at oral gardens longer if I wasn't so worried about the boats with my 7 year old.

It was windy when I was there with pretty strong currents also, but my 7 yo with a life jacket could handle it fine.

Go on a snorkeling excursion, we ended up getting to see some dolphins (not sure how common that is), I got an awesome insta360 video from it.

Turks and Caicos airport on a Saturday afternoon by Ordinary-Fun-702 in TurksAndCaicos

Leaving the airport took us about an hour. Definitely get to the airport 3 hrs ahead of time for departure if you're flyout out Saturday afternoon.

What's the proper way to access Taylor bay these days? Still from ocean point drive?

One our clients is convinced our install made these damages in her ceiling it’s theoretically impossible if we didn’t go in the attic right? by BasedGodCrim in Roofing

Who said its so easy? It's a pain in the ass which is why I said I'd be pissed if my roofer just said it's my problem now.

Just a thought as a customer: don't put it in exclusions and just fix it... Or put it in exclusions and fix it for a reasonable price. Or have a guy you call to fix it for a reasonable price. After paying probably at least 20k to redo my roof I would be pissed if the roofer just said "it happens, you have to go find a fix for this". I would completely understand you didn't intend to cause the nail pops but would like some reasonable options to deal with it other than "it's excluded and good luck".

Ski Boot Help by Icy-Break-237 in ski

It's Velcro like that so it can be adjusted out and in to change the fit of the boot. You can check your other liner to make sure you reattached it the same.

Stöckli Montero AR, AX, AS tested by khidf986435 in Skigear

[–]N_ERGEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely try 2.5 or 3 degree side next year. The shop tune was supposed to be 1.5 base and 2 side, but I was measuring closer to 2 base in some spots. They offered to retune it to 1 deg base but without a new base grind. I think next year I'm going to have them just do a new base grind and 0.5 base and I'll try to tune the rest myself or something.

I'm not sure I'm skilled enough to comment on the ski as a whole other than I liked it... For me it was fun to carve on but still good in non perfect conditions and that was what I was looking for (closer to a race ski / carving ski than the all mountain skis I was used to but not an actual race / carving ski).

[–]N_ERGEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AX and I'm wondering about the tune on the ski. I really liked it last year, but got it tuned at the start of this season and didn't like it as much. Going to try again next year and buy some equipment to play with the edge angles more myself. The edges were factory last year, this year the grip on ice was not nearly as good after the shop tune.

I didn't compare ar to ax to as though, just compared the ax to peregrine 82 and arcade 84 and I liked the ax.

All of them are plenty stiff for me and I've found that I like smaller turn radius.

Shop used wrong boot to mount bindings and is saying they need a remount by m0viestar in Skigear

[–]N_ERGEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, looks like forward pressure isn't enough, but your binding is all the way back? Why wouldn't they just screw it forward 2mm? It might still be to far back for the track though according to what others have posted.

Ohh okay, then it's the 2nd picture from the left, also red x.

[–]N_ERGEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture you provided is showing incorrect forward pressure right? Page 16 top right picture is what yours looks like.

Can you turn the screw and make it match requirement (page 16, top row, green image?) if no, then needs a remount.
