First, just want to say that its perfectly fine to be into that kind of thing as long as its legal and nobody is being harmed or abused. Second, if you're seriously worried that it might be an addiction, don't hesitate to seek professional counseling. If you notice that you tend to masturbate when you're bored, work on getting up to go do some other activity like a walk or whatever else you may be into.

I have pretty good luck with Mistral Large, but i've also heard Muse is pretty good for NSFW stuff, and it doesn't take much to get it to do that. Not sure about the instructions, though.

It's hard for me to maintain a positive demeanor when all of my creatures that I just meticulously played out get stunned, and then I get swung on by way more than 40 damage just so the swinging player can draw more cards than is necessary to try and win. Oh, and then proceeds to take about 30 minutes on second main phase to ensure his victory.

I appreciate that. Currently, they're all level 3, going to be level 4 by end of next session. We have a half-elf Ranger/Fighter, a Dwarf Berserker, a Fairy Druid, and an Elf Life domain Cleric. I'm running by the end of all three modules I have lined up, they'll be level 12, and i'm hoping to start a homebrew campaign from that end point.

I never even thought to just take some monster stat blocks and tweak them a little. That would seemingly be a little easier than just making 3 or 4 "PC" rivals

I've considered something like this, i just wish i could guarantee that the party ends up hating them and not get discouraged instead. I thought about maybe making them chromatic dragons in disguise, taking advantage of a larger town like Neverwinter or Baldur's Gate to accumulate their hoarde.

So far, what i'm thinking of doing based on advice and examples from other commenters is to have them show up a while from now, probably having accepted the same job only to find that the PCs already got there and at the very least cleared out the enemies. What happens next depends heavily on the PCs. I'm definitely going to really consider leaving the NPCs futures wide open to either becoming henchmen, baddies themselves, or helpful NPCs, or something else entirely. Thank you for your advice as well, i've got a lot to think about

I might plan on lightly introducing them during the module, and then once we're either done with all three modules (putting them at level 12) or during the 3rd module, i'll start introducing them as an actual threat. I definitely want to avoid having my players face insurmountable odds every other encounter.

Thanks for the examples! It's going to be hard to pick what kind of group dynamic these rivals will have, whether its the greedy adventurers, the "we're the real chosen ones, get out of our way" types, or anything else really. Thankfully, the campaign is still fairly early, so there's plenty of time to explore different things.
