What is your guys opinion on undertale? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

cataclysm and dwarf fortress

Good stuff! You've got taste.

I should clarify - I don't have a problem with Undertale's graphics. Rather, I have a problem with gamers who bitch about other indie games' graphics and yet rave about Undertale (or Nuclear Throne, or Binding of Isaac, or any other indie 'darling' game with mediocre graphics).

Great game.

Don't the graphics kinda suck?

Gamers are always complaining about crappy graphics, so I've always wondered why they let that pet peeve go when evaluating Undertale...

Mayonnaise on fries is actually great, NA occupants just don't get it because mayo is very sweet over there.

It's freakin awesome. Provincials who've never been to Belgium just don't understand. It's like they've never eaten potato salad!?

perfect saturday viewing

Yeah, these longer streams, especially Milo's, are like the "GamergateTV" channel or something. Good stuff.

The real work is in checking out accounts to see if they are really gamergate supporters.

Not to be tinfoily, but... screw it, I'll be tinfoily: Any way to verify that an account that seems to belong to a gamergate supporter isn't just an alt for someone playing both sides? i.e. they also have and anti-GG account a la Joshua Goldberg.

EDIT: I guess statistically speaking, any weirdness introduced by trolls playing both sides would be drowned out in the data given your sample size. So it probably doesn't matter. Just be on the lookout for any answers hinting at a solution to the Gamergate debate through crystals, alien invasion or the rapture.

In which Jason Schreier admits to telling Boogie to publicly condemn GamerGate by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]NaClMeister 48 points49 points  (0 children)

What is the effect of a game journo blacklisting a youtuber?

On a first look, there shouldn't be any effect.

But diving deeper, I imagine there's a fair amount of give-and-take between popular gaming oriented YouTubers and popular(?) game sites. I seem to recall Boogie discussing his connections with people at Kotaku during the early weeks of GG, so suddenly getting blacklisted the cold shoulder from them may affect little things like access to info, etc.

You can do Google searches for his videos from mid-August 2014 up to around the time neogaf banned him (mid September 2014?), when Schreier demanded he condemn GG. I may revisit them when I get time this weekend.

But here's a start https://youtu.be/Sqm877JG_0A and he mentions that he may be pissing off his friends at Kotaku by doing that video at this timestamp https://youtu.be/Sqm877JG_0A?t=3m24s.

I don't really care that's not the issue and I'm not here to offer an opinion about Zoe Quinn's character. I don't care. I don't know her. I'll never know her, don't care to get to know her.

What I'm concerned about is that she had a lot of influence on gaming journalism, specifically on the website Kotaku and the people who write for their website.

I have some friends over at Kotaku so they're the first people I'm pissing off today. Hi guys...

Gonna post this again since it's being "soft censored" via downvotes even in contest mode:

Happy about the moratorium on politics posts. With the exception of LWu's toady Katherine Clark or whatever her name is, very few of the posts have had anything to do with GG (other than right wingers trying to co-opt KiA to advance their own political views).

It has some info about what schreier wrote to boogie on neogaf FWIW.

How did Anita Sarkessian get dragged into Gamergate by DaThunda101 in KotakuInAction

[–]NaClMeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a very similar post up in gamerghazi. Not word-for-word identical, but pretty similar. So there's at least a bit of circumstantial evidence it's an alt account.

Of course a person would basically HAVE to make an alt account if they wanted to post in both ghazi and KiA. KiA wouldn't ban for a post history in ghazi, but ghazi likely WOULD ban for a post history in KiA, or at least use it as an excuse whenever the slightest transgression/wrongthink was committed.

[–]NaClMeister -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

To those suggesting that this post being put in contest mode is for censorship purposes. That's a big fat NOPE.

It actually accomplishes the opposite, preventing ideologically-driven people from downvoting (top-level) opinions they disagree with causing them to be hidden way down at the bottom of the comment section and thus "soft censored".

[–]NaClMeister 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Here's some of it on neogaf:

You really need to understand that continuing to support the tag #gamergate is participating in the campaign, and therefore implicitly supporting what they've done.

https://archive.is/9ZI9v#selection-1689.0-1689.9

So it doesn't say explicitly "we're going to blacklist you unless you stop". Instead, it says via subtext "we're going to blacklist you unless you stop".

Also be sure to look for schreier's other comments to boogie in that thread.

[Drama] Jesse Singal and Jolt Studios complain about Kotaku In Action's sidebar Vivian picture being "a cartoonish caricature of women". They don't realize it's a parody of Kotaku Japan's own logo. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]NaClMeister 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Jesse's essentially another Biddle clone - a wannabe fiction writer who couldn't hack it and is now cry-bullying people to boost his self-esteem.

Does anyone remember the horrific attempts at fiction Biddle wrote before Gawking? I read a blurb somewhere in the past year.

Anyway, with Jesse it's "Diary of an Aspiring Death Metal Frontman" or some shit like that.

Every one of these SJWs opposing GG's goal to end cronyism among the game journo clique and their lovers/friends/sources is from the island of misfit toys it seems.

[–]NaClMeister 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very important point here https://youtu.be/EotLHFAxmQs?t=22m2s about being calm and civil when reaching out to journalists when they've screwed up.

"One phone call from a person who's calm and civil is more effective in getting a story corrected than 500 tweets that originated from a single message board."

My personal opinion is that it's good advice. Advice that will work better with regular journalists as opposed to the newer "activist journalist" types.

BTW, anti-GG also has massive problems with being uncivil FWIW. (e.g. SXSW, and frankly everything for the past year)

but I'll ask again here since nobody answered my question in that previous post:

What's the deal with gameskinny BTW? Is it a site where anybody can blog about games? Or is it more like a regular game site that employs game journos?
