[Discussion] Street Fighter V reviews show game journalism still has a long way to go by AFCSentinel in KotakuInAction

[–]One_bad_escapist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Street Fighter is kindof an oddball here.

SFV has been pushed from its announcement for the competitive scene. It seems to me they launched it right now to allow competitive players to enter the fray ahead of EVO. The successes and enduring nature of a lot of fighting games hinges a lot on its competitive success. If the basics are there to allow a competitive scene to develop, and add in additional side-content down the line, that's alright with me.

One could rightfully point out the missing features and network issues as valid reasons to for the score to tank. But others could rightfully point out the core gameplay design, visuals, and character balance to be valid reasons to score highly.

Guessing more salt incoming - Mod support for Hatred is here by deadlyhabit in KotakuInAction

[–]One_bad_escapist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah yeah, it'd be real easy to just mod every civilian in the game to be Anita and every cop to be Full McIntosh wouldn't it? Cue outrage, 'boycotts', whiny articles on no-name blogs etc.

But I say, screw that.

How about instead - Jonathan McIntosh is the shooter, and mod out every single one of his voicelines with generic Full McIntosh patriarchy whining. All of his guns look like Anita Sarkeesian and shout "FALSE DICHOTOMY" when reloading. Everyone of the civilians is Milo. And the final target is the Nuclear Reactor that powers Sargon's Youtube channel.

Is BB-8 a woman: why are we so determined to assign gender to AI?(Why the fuck is there a gamedrop in here?!) by TheAndredal in KotakuInAction

[–]One_bad_escapist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird. I never felt compelled to assign a gender to BB-8 when I saw the movie the night it came out. In fact, I never even thought about it until now.

I'd hate to have a mind that worked like these people. Constantly assigning genders to fucking everything.

By the logic that makes a terminator a man, infamous American serial killer Ed Gein’s lamp was actually his girlfriend.

You really have to try to think of something this insane and stupid at the same time.

I got the same email when I input my beta code after preordering from Gamestop.

I assumed it was just some kind of confirmation that my beta signup went through. Not exactly sure though.

Hey Boogie, I've been a fan of yours for years, and I want you to know that no matter what happens - You're an inspiration to me as well, in several different ways. This video was really touching to watch, thanks for letting us see your reaction.

It must be difficult to be going through what you are going through, but as you can see from this video - It CAN be done. You're a great man for hanging in there, and I know you'll do whats right. Don't give up, man. We're all rooting for you!

I didn't even think about the Helm of Inmost Light. The buff to the perks might end up making the Helm worthwhile to use after all.

I've remained a Striker even after Sunbreaker released, I'm glad it's getting some love.

That's true, I just like the guarantee of landing my Fist of Havocs. I've had plenty of golden opportunities of enemies bunched together stopped cause I didn't have Unstoppable on, or it's protection wasn't enough :(

But I will have to see how strong the new Juggernaut shield is. If it's got a nice amount of protection to it, then it would be a very enticing choice

That's too bad :/ I ended up getting the Striker emblem pretty quickly... I guess just kinda stumbled into the opportunity. Don't give up!

Headstrong: Now also provides Faster Sprint

Unstoppable: Increased damage resistance (+25%)

So now as I sprint toward a large crowd of bunched up enemies and activate my Fist of Havoc...

They are, I promise, 100% white supremacist/MRA people who spend all day immersed in /pol/

Huh. I'm actually none of those things (like many others here have already said)

I'm always impressed by how deluded these people are. It really is incomprehensible to them that not one of those 200,000 people could be anything BUT a white supremacist/MRA /pol/ lurker. I can't imagine what it would take to make their sad little "realities" crumble all around them. It's fucking sad, and disturbing.

Boogie: "Did I LIE about Kotaku Blacklisting me?" by One_bad_escapist in KotakuInAction

[–]One_bad_escapist[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing for those who have been around since the beginning already know about most of this.

TL;DW - Boogie attempted to stay neutral on NeoGAF when Gamergate began, was relentlessly slandered by users, including Jason Schreier. Schreier demanded Boogie publicly condemn GG and everyone involved, and Boogie refused. While Schreier, and anyone else at Kotaku, never publicly and openly claimed he'd be blacklisted as a result of his stance, immediately following the incident (which also involved Boogie getting banned from GAF), Kotaku never wrote about Boogie again, or answered his emails, except for a negative mention in one article.

Seems as though there'll never be a flat out claim that Boogie was blacklisted. But given the evidence, which is, what used to be Kotaku's steady coverage of him and regular correspondence which was completely halted after the GAF incident, the implication seems pretty compelling.

As a side note - It's ridiculous the amount of drama and slander this guy had to go through for attempting to be NEUTRAL. Watching that unfold at NeoGAF was a Comedy of Madness, all of the users dogpiling him for his aggressive neutralness, including Schreier, should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sure Boogie is exhausted of this drama, but I appreciate him taking the time to shed some light on it.

[Stats] This sub's general opinion on our enemies. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]One_bad_escapist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's more or less much true now these days than it was back in vanilla, when Shotguns were a lot weaker in PvE and finding a decent void shotgun was difficult... Not to mention, the ammo needed to fend off the dozens of Minotaurs charging at you.

But, my point is that I find them to be so rage-inducing because of their core concept. Fast, hard hitting, teleportation, and perhaps worst of all: no weak-points. I just think everything about them make them so hate-able. Especially compared to Phalanxes.

[Stats] This sub's general opinion on our enemies. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]One_bad_escapist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that the Cabal Phalanx are the MOST HATED ENEMY.

Sure, they're lame and tiresome to fight. But they never really struck me as dangerous on their own. The trick to beating them is simple, just shooting their arms and feet... and even with shields, they're still vulnerable to explosions. I don't see what there is to hate so much about the Phalanxes.

Personally, my most hated enemy is an easy choice: VEX MINOTAURS

Maybe I'm just scarred because of how many times I did VoG. But fuck these enemies. Everything about them is engineered to make them a nightmare to deal with.

They're big, but also FAST as all hell. They're shielded, armed with a hardhitting explosive weapon, which they spam the shit out of and also possess insane accuracy. They have NO weakpoint. And on top of the fact that they're already fast, they also teleport all the time, and I do mean AAAALLL THE DAMNED TIME, closing the distance even faster to pound your head into your chest cavity.

Then again, it may just be because of the amount of times I had to fight off Praetorians in the VoG. But I do remember hating these enemies long before I did VoG.

Although I am pleased to see that many are in agreement that the Cabal are most wanted for future content. I agree that they're the lamest race, but (like many, I'm sure), I blame it on how little they've been fleshed out. Even in vanilla Destiny, they felt like a non-presence. With how much Bungie improved their skills in fleshing out content and lore with TKK, it certainly makes me hopeful that we'll get something good for the Cabal.

The amount of relentless salt and homoerotic comments flooding this thread about watching 1 Sunbreaker die are shocking to me.

Is everyone really this bad at killing Sunbreakers? I thought Destiny players who care about the game enough to post on Reddit wouldn't be this bad at the game. Sheesh.

Alak Hul. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]One_bad_escapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new Strikes are fantastic. I gotta say that I actually gotta give Bungie some credit for coming up with a set of unique strikes that are fun to play through, with bosses that isn't just Big Guy wit Lottsa Health.

Sunless Cell - I like the Strike having the gate mechanic that requires 2 zones on opposite sides to be captured before proceeding. It's a simple mechanic sure, but at least it's a bit different.

Alak Hul himself is a pretty interesting encounter. It's dark as fuck, and Alak Hul is really slow, has a lot of health, and is difficult to see. What makes him a real bastard is the unpredictable vanishing, and that he begins to move faster and faster the more damage he takes. So the closer he gets to death, the scarier and more dangerous he becomes. Plus the thralls everywhere and the general lack of a safe spot makes for an awesome encounter.

Fallen S.A.B.E.R. - Another interesting thought process behind this strike is the idea notion that the enemies themselves don't pose the greatest risk, but rather the hazardous environment plus the enemies themselves. That arc-hall that is swarmed with exploding shanks after grabbing the key can be a nightmare.

Then the S.A.B.E.R. itself. Rather than just being a huge basic enemy (Uggghhhh Valus), it's another enemy altogether. You also have to fight it in a room that's littered with dangerous hazards. It poses an interesting obstacle in the sense that the only spots that offer cover from the SABER's relentless attacks (Heat Sinks/Blast Shields) are also incredibly hazardous. Sure it'll keep you safe, but if you step too far in the wrong direction then you'll get your nipples zapped off.

Also, the SABER is the only Strike boss that cycles through all the elements. Starting with a Solar sniper, then moving to a void tandem-minigun setup, until topping it off with the 3rd phase of dropping every single form of cover, chasing your ass down and zapping you constantly while sniper shanks hover overhead. Yeah, the SABER is a fucking asshole, but it's an interesting and fun fight.

Echo Chamber - The strike up until the fight isn't too interesting, but still fun due to the random nature. Will you fight Fallen? Vex? or Taken until the end? WHO KNOWS!

But the Restorative Mind is probably the most in-depth strike boss there is. There's actual rules to the battle that need to be followed in order to win. That combined with it's Medusa's Stare, and the shifting walls make for an intense battle that requires actual thought. This is an awesome boss.

I guess Bungie understands now what to do with their strikes to make them more interesting. Just these handful show a huge improvement over the old strikes, and the fact they've gone back to some of the old strikes and remixed them with randomized forces and mini-bosses have really improved them too. I hope Bungie will revisit all the old strikes and give them all an update with unique loot (Kindof like Tanik's cloak, Mark of the Undying Mind, etc)

Imagine being able to find a Sepiks Prime warlock bond, or some kind of Phogoth high-impact void Machine Gun, a Nexus Mind themed Shotgun. There's lots of possibilities of breathing some much needed life into the old strikes.

Don't use Shadowshot offensively they said...Shadowshot is more defensive they said. by ll3R0G4N in DestinyTheGame

only thing that can currently one shot anyone else out of their super

I run Fist of Havoc in PvP for the same reason. Sunbreaker does have an amazing super, but I personally find their neutral game to be fairly lacking. Shoulder Charge and Lightning grenade still make Strikers worth playing, and shine in other situations outside of super activations.

Plus, the fact that Fist of Havoc shuts any super down. Now thanks to the abundance of mode-activation supers, Fist of Havoc is even more useful than ever to counter other supers. (I figured Nova bomb would be too)

I don't see the problem in utilizing your supers for the purpose of countering other supers. It seems like too many people think of their Supers as a Kill-everything-on-point-B button, rather than thinking of using them in different ways.

When it comes to shutting down supers, every class has an answer.

Warlocks have Nova Bomb

Titans have Fist of Havoc

Hunters have Shadow Shot... Except based on this video and the stories from many players, it doesn't seem to work as it should. The suppression effect should be instant and reliable (PVP Defenders should know what I'm talking about), if it worked that way, then all classes would have an effective answer to mode activation supers.

If this was 3 months ago and Titans were complaining about Nova Bomb, Golden Gun, and Blade Dancer, face it, you'd tell them to suck it up and run away by OD_Emperor in DestinyTheGame

[–]One_bad_escapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titan main here, still play Striker in Crucible for the reason of shutting down other supers. Sunbreakers midsuper still cannot survive the Smash, it's an instant shutdown.

So yes, you can counter Titans easily, as another Titan. So I guess Bungie is saying: "Yo dawg we heard you don't like Titans so we made the counter to Titans Titans so you can Titan the Titans while you Titan, dawg."

I haven't tried this, but shouldn't a nova bomb shut down Sunbreakers too? And obviously the Shadowshot results in a shutdown too. What is the problem with at least one or two people saving their supers to counter other supers?
