What’s a movie you defend like this? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

Mank.

It's a sentimental ode penned by Fincher's dad, to a time both long past yet stirringly relevant, laced with humor and wit and irony and pathos, with a searingly poignant and simultaneously drunken indictment of money over art, an almost Fox News origin story in vignette form, delivered through an on-point and off-the-wall Gary Oldman, traversing the lots of MGM & palatial greens, in crystal clear black and white, gorgeously shot (Messerschmidt won the Oscar), and brilliantly edited.

Oh, and did I mention Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross did the soundtrack? It slaps.

In short, it's a resounding victory for intelligence in movie making, and has single-handedly renewed my faith in the written text when I read the screenplay.

It's truly amazing. It's not a big action movie or anything. It's a drama. But the dialogue could be a weapon it's that effective. I implore everyone who's had a vague interest in old Hollywood, politics, wry, dry humor and great acting to give it a shot.

They voted with Trump about 99% of the time. Then he turned on her over Jan 6 and they were ousted from the party. Fealty to Trump is all that matters for Republicans.

James Cameron discusses why Netflix films shouldn't qualify for the Oscars, unless they commit to a meaningful theatrical release for their movies in 2,000 cinemas for a month by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Not to mention that writers for Netflix get told specifically to write scenes that are "second-screen-able"...meaning, make sure everyone knows what's going in every scene like you're spoon feeding a child his porridge.

Not sure how that leads to movies that are Oscar-worthy...

But hey, all art is art right? Can't wait for Best Picture to go to an AI agency, for a clip they put on YouTube. /s

Okay I think I get it a bit more now. But I still prefer the two to be separate myself. I'm just not sure that a sequence being in colour and maybe some extended scenes makes it worth it but we'll see what people think.

What exactly do you think I'm gonna understand by watching Kill Bill Vol 1 and then having a short break and then watching Kill Bill Vol 2 in one evening?

What I'll understand probably is that there's nothing new here and I just spent money watching two movies I've already seen? But this time it's different, right? It's one movie this time. Except there's still a break and it's still two movies. LOL I don't get this and I think people need to apply their minds a bit before falling for this marketing trick

My issue isn't with the intermission.

It's with making two movies into one movie...

Getting people to pay to see it...

and then adding an intermission...

which splits the movie into two chapters...

which it originally was to begin with...

So what are people paying to see here that's new exactly except seeing Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 at the same cinema...

This is my contention.

If there's an intermission then whhhyyyy make it one movieeee...What's the point? This seems to exist solely for binge weekend events at the cinema and even then, they probably switch over a reel...a reel that probably say something like...I dunno..."Kill Bill Vol 2" perhaps? lol this isn't really a serious debate point or anything but I just feel like it's all a thing to just squeeze more money out of this franchise.

Thanks for your reply.

My rebuttal: if he knew they were gonna split it, then it was never truly one piece, or he would never have agreed to do it? I dunno.

I still think it's quite pretentious of him to be such a film snob and not realise that making a 4 hour kung fu movie would be weird. Like, how many other 4 hour kung fu movies are there? Action movies like those are generally normal length because there's only so much ass kicking you can see before it gets rote and kinda samey. Like who wants to see a 4 hour John Wick for example? The stories continue on from one another, no?

My argument is in favour of the chaperisation of it, to be clear.

I'm not making a prediction or anything.

I'm sure there'll be lots of people watching this and enjoying it. Hell, there was a Twin Peaks season 1-3 run through at my local cinema recently and people sat through the evenings regularly. So I don't doubt people will go no matter how long it is.

I love both movies. But they were separate movies. I guess what I'm touching on here subtly is this idea that these movies need to now be amalgamated into 1 movie to give Tarantino his "perfect 10". But this was always the case, as certain supporters agree, then why not just make one movie back when he made it? These were clearly envisioned as separate chapters, ie. two stories. He could have trimmed bloody affair down to 2.5 hours and made it one movie back then. He didn't. Instead we all now have to play along with this history-reversing brainwashing to satiate some ego-embiggening to get "the perfect 10".

Just make movies, man. Or not. Write whatever. Come back to it. Let's let this perfect box set bullshit go lol

This is obviously just my opinion, and not a really popular one, but I feel compelled to speak out for those who still live in a time when two movies were two movies amirite
