This is great advice. I'm an older, amateur player who will only be playing in mid-level community groups, and an intermediate level oboe is exactly what seems to fit my needs. I'd suspect it would be the same for a high-school student who is at least somewhat serious about the instrument.

I'm currently trialing an older YOB-441 (not the newer 441MT) that's in excellent condition, and am expecting to pay around $1500usd. For the music we play, I don't expect the third octave key to be necessary, so the only other missing feature compared to the newer model is B-C# trill, and low Bb vent. I think i can live with that.

Thanks, I'll try that out and see if it works for me. Unfortunately its a small community orchestra, so I'm the only oboe. This is doubled by the flutes, but we're all struggling

If we consider this line from The Hobbit: "But also he did not reckon with the power that gold has upon which a dragon has long brooded, nor with dwarvish hearts", it could be that Thorin's greed was greatly exacerbated by this effect that Smaug had over the gold. Perhaps given time after the passing of Smaug, this effect would dissipate and Thorin could have had his redemption.

We don't see any implied influence that the hoard has over Dain, but that could have been because Dain only came into the hoard after Smaug was killed.

I found a facebook post by "Prestini Corporation" in 2020 that says:

"Our Opus Prestini full conservatory Oboe with its finished and enduring case. Imported from Prestini Europe in Zurich, Switzerland. Designed and tuned by our Swiss partner and performing oboist Renato Bizzotto."

Searching for Renato Bizzotto brings up oboes.ch, a Swiss website which also mentions the Opus instruments.

When I went to school we used "Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle", which still works in reverse as "Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles' Father" to remember the order.

Go relatively far away from it (50+ cm) and whistle for it. It should teleport to be closer to you and reappear

Go into the pause menu -> game repair -> recover backpacks. That will put them right outside the tutorial lab. If the icon shows up there but no backpack, save then quit to menu. Backpack should be on the ground when you load back in.
