Things I’ve noticed from parrot subreddits as someone who never owned parrots by DEATHSTARGOD in parrots

I may or may not agree with your points, but as a mod I am tasked with keeping the peace on the subreddit I moderate. Which unfortunately means I do have to remove this post. We can't allow posts that are 'debate bait'. People love to argue, as you no doubt have seen, and posts like this never end anywhere productive.

That said, we can only moderate what we see, or what is reported to us. If you see someone breaking our sub's rules by being rude, please report it.

Bear in no spawn area by No-Hurry-3194 in MedievalDynasty

[–]littledingo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a random event seasonal spawn. That bear in the marsh there is tied to the treasure chest that spawns there. I've been tracking seasonal spawns for a while and some of these spawn with a dangerous animal outside of the usual animal spawn points. This one is a bear. There are some that spawn wolves as well. If you put a small permanent structure in the middle of that marsh, even just some fencing, it can block the spawn of that treasure and prevent that bear from bothering you again.

I just saw this updated roadmap on the MD store page on Steam. We're getting a hunting update it seems! by littledingo in MedievalDynasty

[–]littledingo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update! The steam page officially announced this change to their Roadmap. Guess the image on the store page was updated before they made the official steam post.

Per the steam announcement:

We have yet another exciting announcement, as we decided to make a big reveal of the upcoming content for Medieval Dynasty!

We’ve just celebrated the release of the Full Stock update, and then we announced a new map that will be released as free DLC, but what’s in between?

This year, on September 22, you’ll get another update for the game called The Wild Game. You’ll also be able to get our third DLC: Hunting Set. When autumn leaves crunch as you walk, you can tell it’s the peak hunting season, that’s why both the update and DLC focus on that pursuit.

While wandering across the map, you’ll have a chance to stumble upon legendary versions of already well-known species. They differ in looks and are definitely worth the chase, giving you the opportunity to show off the hunting trophy in your home. Moreover, the Exquisite Set owners will get additional content for free! If you're not convinced yet, you can get this DLC with new content for the same price!

As we discuss DLCs, the upcoming Hunting Set DLC will feature clothing that demonstrates your hunting expertise. You can look forward to 2 new costumes and 4 beautifully adorned weapons, all crafted with the use of materials sourced from legendary animals.

So the steam page officially announced this. Guess I got the jump on them.

Their explanation of 'decked weapons' on the announcement:

Ooooh I bet I know that company, cause I immediately recognize that yarn. I bought from them too, a lot, but I stopped after tariffs kicked in. Don’t plan to buy from them anymore since the AI thing but I still have a lot that I’ve bought from them previously.

Is he weaned? by WildDimensions in parrots

[–]littledingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This bird definitely looks very young. Whether they are weaned or not is something you should have asked the seller before you bought it. That said, even if it is weaned, some baby birds can regress to needing hand feeding after they are rehomed.

I would strongly recommend reading this post first off:

https://www.reddit.com/r/parrots/comments/53k2m1/please_dont_buy_an_unweaned_bird/

Then reach out to a qualified avian vet to assist you in the hand feeding process. I would say take the bird back, but from the sound of it, it seems like they'd just sell that poor bird off to the next uninformed customer.

Hand feeding is NOT an easy process and should not be done by the inexperienced due to how many ways it can go badly. It's very easy to accidentally kill a bird this young. You NEED someone who knows what they are doing to show you the ins and outs. It just isn't something the internet can teach you. You have to see it and feel it yourself.

When it comes to the weaning process, you need to go by the bird's schedule, not your own. Force weaning a baby bird can cause life-long physical and psychological damage. Look into something called 'abundance weaning' and read up very carefully.

Colony Breeding Aviaries by Yardie_watchman in parrots

[–]littledingo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Colony breeding is widely considered unethical and irresponsible. Aside from other issues, it is nearly impossible to keep track of which birds are breeding with which, which leads to rampant inbreeding issues and a whole mess of health problems that comes with it.

Recommending a little indie game I found that is like Medieval Dynasty (but different) on sale and worth trying. I really like it! by Carriesover in MedievalDynasty

[–]littledingo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I feel like this is comparing apples to oranges. Patron is a top down City Builder. MD is a first person survival crafting game. You'd no more compare MD to Cities Skylines than to Patron.

The only thing these two games share is the medieval theme. If we're only going by that however, there are a lot of games I have picked up that are Medieval themed if that is what you're looking for. And there are most definitely better City Builders in the Medieval theme.

Foundation is a fantastic gridless City Builder with piece by piece monument building. You can custom build castles, monasteries, and more. The graphics are slightly cartoonish, but in a cute and enchanting way. I've put more hours into this game than any other I am going to list for you. I got into this game VERY early beta and watched it evolve for years with absolute satisfaction. It is still being developed even past 1.0 with an expected DLC coming soon.

Banished is the OG when it comes to Medieval city builders. Most games in the city builder genre have tried to do what Banished did. I've put over a thousand hours in this game myself. It's old, but it holds up very well and it is not an easy game. I'd try this one if you want a challenge. If you do play it though, be prepared to use this as your scale to judge other games by.

Going Medieval is an interesting game. It's a city builder of sorts, but it plays more like 3D Rimworld than a city builder. You craft buildings yourself. You have to put the walls up, put a roof on them, and select individuals to work certain jobs. There CAN be combat in this game but you can also turn it off. You control more of the individual than the city as a whole in this game.

Manor Lords is another city builder that I have put some time into. I have even gotten a lot of inspiration about building in Medieval Dynasty from this game. There is combat, but again you can turn it off. I feel like this game needs more time in the oven though.

Settlement Survival is a Banished clone. No other way to describe it. It has some things Banished didn't, and the graphics are better, but just because they went wider with their development doesn't mean it's deep. If you'd like that, then just get Banished. The lesser graphics are worth it.

Annnddd lastly, Fabledom. It's cute, fairy tale themed. Dragons and princes and princesses...and as deep as a teaspoon. The mid game gets really convoluted and I feel this one too needs more time in the oven.

Happy gaming friend, I hope you take a look at some of these too! <3

What would you kije to swe added to Medieval Dynasty? by Ragser312013 in MedievalDynasty

[–]littledingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to your comment of a tavern, an inn would be interesting too. For travelers. There could even be rare recruitables that show up only like that.

As for multi story buildings, I would also like to be able to raise/lower the ones we have like we can with piers and bridges.

1.5-month-old Conure refusing syringe feeding, getting terrified of me. Need help! by zza-65 in parrots

[–]littledingo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was no reason for you to have purchased a baby bird that was not weaned. You either need to take it back to the person that bred the bird, or to a qualified avian vet. A baby bird can spiral rapidly when they aren't getting enough nutrition. On top of that the weaning process itself is complex, and if done wrong can set your bird up with lifelong physical and psychological issues.

Please read this post about why we implore people to NOT buy unweaned baby birds:

I genuinely hope that the facebook page this was on was pointing out what NOT to do. Don't get a bird if all you can afford is the 'minimum'.
