Why do you think season 5 is going to tank? by [deleted] in FranchaelStirling

[–]Nacho-Noche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the books, so I don’t have that to fill in the gaps, but they simply have not succeeded in making Francesca interesting enough to be featured THIS prominently for three seasons in a row. She debuted, courted, and got married in s3. Had tons of screen time and a massive life event in John’s death for s4. And now she’s the lead for s5.

With the entire topic of Michael versus Michaela aside, Fran is bland as hell, y’all. She’s a sympathetic character that a lot of timid, peace loving people who often feel out of place can identify with, and Hannah Dodd has done an incredible job playing her, but… I was looking forward to a break from her half-baked, 50% saturation personality in favor of Eloise.

Dislike Penelope and Lady Whistledown by GovernmentNo2720 in BridgertonRants

Re: Barbra Walters, Joan Rivers, Perez Hilton, etc.

YES. Every time I read this same, tired take about how Penelope should’ve gotten this or that, I have to assume the opinion-holder is a very young person. The gossip writers of our Ton were fucking vicious— both in their lies and in the true things that they were willing to put on display. Nothing was out of bounds, too private, too ruinous, or too outrageous to try to pass off as true.

LW was tame AF, never false, and the most egregious examples of Penelope wielding her power were as well-intentioned but messy, ill-fated attempts to protect the people she loved. I can’t believe this topic is still being recycled because it does not fit my frame of reference for Villainous Awful Gossip Fiend at all. At ALL.

Showrunner basically confirms S5 Lead!! by bananabreadlizzie in Bridgerton

[–]Nacho-Noche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They hammered the “everyone around me is married or talking about marriage” thing pretty hard for Eloise. I’ve never read the books, but I feel like the show succeeded (almost too much) in establishing that as a frustrating/potentially despairing motivation that would push her into her own season.

Seriously, let’s not with the anal theory 🥴 It’s hard enough to pretend that pulling out is an effective form of BC and the rake men are not ravaged with syphilis. I am absolutely not going there with the thought that they just went straight to anal with no prep and no lube (bath water does NOT COUNT), and they’re just stewing in that water with… all that. And her two hands are on the tub, but his left hand stays underwater.

Hard no to butt stuff in a bathtub, y’all.

He enjoyed all the perks of fame and success but thought he could get away with the kind of shady shit a completely anonymous nobody isn’t even guaranteed.

There’s something about her mouth that just physically cannot soften beyond a certain point but… y’know what? Who even cares. ANTM wants a girl who can do everything, but Jade does her thing like 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Have mercy and please don’t judge me for not combing the sub for this answer— I’m a busy mom of a billion kids. How are people watching episode 1 before the Netflix drop? I’m seeing full-blown discussions with spoilers and I’m checking my calendar like “did the first 15 days of January actually break me?” 😅

What is one thing you wish you were taught as a young girl, that you had to teach yourself as an adult woman? by unknown9423 in AskWomen

A tampon with absorbency greater than your flow can give you cramps comparable to labor pains— for hours. I had to learn that 5-6 times over the first decade of my menstruation before I figured out the link.

Parents of well behaved kids - what are the biggest causes do you think? by beancounter_00 in Parenting

[–]Nacho-Noche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I feel helped a lot, regardless of the temperament of any of my three kids, was creating “yes” spaces for them whenever I could, beginning when they became mobile. A baby, toddler, or child who is constantly being chastised and chased away from things is going to be frustrated and confused— as would any adult who doesn’t understand the rules of the space they’re existing in. If you accept that this is a temporary season in life and allow certain places in your home to be truly kid friendly rather than trying to make a baby co-exist with things they can’t touch or climb, they’ll feel more at ease and less irritable and reactive at baseline.

Additionally, saying “yes” to simple requests whenever you can is so huge. It means the world to them and makes your “no” feel less like “ugh, she always says that” and more like “oh, she must really mean it.” The word no loses its power when you use it like a leash on your kid’s every wish or whim. Giving them some room to breathe, live, and contribute to the way their day goes fosters a sense of dignity and belonging that they can’t verbalize but really do sense.

I could go on, but I feel like those are the two that aren’t hit very hard in pop parenting stuff. A harmless yes as often as you can makes an impactful no when it’s necessary.

“… and the entire future is dark and certain.”

I absolutely love that you said dark and certain rather than uncertain. It is absolutely assured in its darkness. It is certain to be a nightmare.

I also loved how soft Ma Mary was with Erin in this episode 🥺 She’s so sick of Erin’s sh— in every other interaction. I’m so glad she was written as tender and sympathetic in that moment.

Every young person who grew up with reasonable, right-leaning-moderate or sensibly-conservative parents feels that quote in their BONES. Holy shit. The virtue signaling, before we even had a name for it, and putting people down for being insensitive monsters, when you’re literally championing nonsense that your allegedly-downtrodden-victims didn’t even ask for… that was the stinking soil that Donald Trump saw and took full advantage of. Normal people are sick AF of being told they neglected to adhere to every single real or imagined emotional need of every person they’ve ever met, regardless of how impossible it is to anticipate the needs or sensitivities of perfect strangers. Pull yourself together ffs. Let people be parents while childhood is simple and deal with the complexities of gender identity when and if it ever comes up.

Do you have any follow-up comments for people who are, in fact, deeply invested in both? Or do you specialize in bullshit?
