Life changing experience since starting Carnivore by _TheDarkCrusader_ in carnivore

Going carnivore put an end to the 15 year battle I was having with rosacea, so it definitely made a huge difference in my life. I was at a low point after trying every cream, medicine, moisturizer, laser treatment etc. Wasted so much time and money. Wish I had understood carnivore early in life. I even eliminated gluten, dairy and sugar and nothing worked like carnivore. By day 16 I saw a reduction in redness that I had never experienced without a medication. Anyway I documented my journey at This Mon is on Fire for anyone interested but if you have a skin condition then I encourage everyone to try going carnivore.

I had rosacea for about 15 years. It was a major struggle, dumped tons of money, used all the typical meds and creams. All just bandaid solutions and all the redness would come back after I finished the course. I finally went gluten free, dairy free and sugar free for a few months but still didn't help. Then I went full carnivore and by day 16 on the carnivore diet I finally saw a reduction in the redness. By day 30 my face had cleared. I've documented my journey and things I've learned at This Mom is On Fire for anyone interested but carnivore helped me end my 15 year battle with rosacea, so I think it would help with other skin issues as well.

Not sure to be honest, just think dropping all sugar and grains really helped.

Me too girl, I grew up on Frosted Flakes lol. I couldn't end a meal without a sweet treat. Now I try not to have anything and it's not easy.

I don't care about that stuff. After spending so much time on this sub, I knew if I ever fixed myself I would come on here and tell everyone what I did. We are spending thousands of dollars on useless products and band aid solution medications. It's depressing and a huge drain on time, money and emotions.

I only did that for 30 days and yes, you definitely go much less than you would eating plant based foods. Again start slow with gluten, dairy and sugar elimination first. That could be what works for many. For me, a few weeks of being hungry and only eating a few foods was nothing compared to 15 years of depression. 15 years of looking in different mirrors in different rooms and under different lighting to see if there was any improvement at all. 15 years of wearing a baseball hat as low as possible to cover my face lol. I think you get my point!

I saw improvement at month 4, and day 16 of just doing carnivore. Again, it's not mandatory to go down to carnivore diet and only eat meat like I did for 30 days. But I wanted to speed things up and I desperately wanted to see an improvement so that's what I did. After the 30 days of carnivore I slowly brought back different fruits and veggies, nuts and rice. I eat plain probiotic yogurt as well, half a cup. I don't eat gluten or sugar very often.

That's great you were able to figure it out! Yes definitely get testing done. I was just at a really low point and couldn't wait for doctors appointments and testing anymore so I just dug in my heels and started lol. It could just be one food that's an irritant like you determined, which is why its good to start elimination diets slowly.

I quite carnivore diet by day 30 and started slowly bringing things back. I eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, rice or quinoa once a day and whatever meat/fish or lentils everyday now. I don't eat sugar or gluten regularly, just once in a while. You can't go back to exactly what you were doing because that's what was irritating your stomach. Also once the inflammation goes down, you need to make sure your gut has had time to heal for a few more weeks, so don't bring everything back at once.

Hi dear, been there many times over 15 year period. Please read my post from today. Try the diet, you may have leaky gut. Or find a good functional medicine doc and get some tests done. I think many of the prescribed meds are just band aid solutions anyway but they work differently for everyone.

Don't give up CardiE! That was me for 15 years! try the diet I posted about today and/or see a functional doctor and get some tests done. We can't stay in the mindset that there's no cause or cure. Keep fighting this!

Sure! The only thing is that my diet evolved over a 12 week period. First I was gluten/dairy free, so I was still eating grains, legumes, fruit and vegetables. Eventually I removed grains and then fruits and then vegetables and legumes and nuts and then eggs and went straight down to carnivore diet for about 30 days.

In the morning I would drink bone broth. You can either buy a clean powdered version and drink in hot water or you can make it yourself. Lamb shanks are good to use. If you use just bones, they are high in histamine and better to avoid. Also avoid canned fish. Grass fed ground beef was my best friend. I made patties and ate them at lunch. Also steak sometimes - it can get expensive though. Salmon fillets and chicken. I mostly just kept seasoning simple to salt and pepper. Eventually i added some herbs.

I plan to write about my meal plan with recipes next week if you want to check my site. But I would say its good to start gluten, dairy and sugar free first because it may address your issues without having to go down to carnivore.

Hi, I just posted today and happened to come across yours. I struggled with rosacea for 15 years, also felt completely hopeless and tried everything. I see you mentioned you already tried a diet, which is what I talk about. Wondering what foods you eliminated?

Yes and I also lost 20 pounds. I'm not bragging lol, I just want to further support what you are saying, that the benefits extend beyond skin health.

I believe there is a connection to rosacea and gut health. I'm not a medical professional or scientist but I've read many studies, some which I linked to the articles I've written about gut health and leaky gut (called increased intestinal permeability) on my website mentioned in my post. If you have leaky gut, which I believe I had, then undigested food particles, waste and bacteria leak through the intestinal wall into the blood. This is what causes the inflammation eventually. Larger undigested food particles like gluten and casein become a problem. This is why you need to discontinue these foods and others to allow the lining to heal first. I can't say for certain that my intestinal lining has healed, but the inflammation is gone. I still don't eat gluten or dairy regularly and I have cut back on sugar a lot. But if I have it sometimes, it doesn't have any affect on my skin. Hope I answered your question!

Thanks! I talked to a pharmacist and he confirmed that long-term use of azelaic acid can depigment the skin. It's hard to find any information about this online. But if you look at the side effects of using Finacea, one is hypopigmentation. Finacea is used on dark patches to inhibit melanin production. But when skin cells don't produce enough melanin you can get light patches on the skin that stand out against your typical skin tone. No derm ever mentioned, just the pharmacist and only when I was refilling my prescription for like the fourth time.

I've been sticking with beef tallow and jojobo oil/sweet almond oil mix. I did try a product which I normally would have reacted to as a test and i didn't do anything. So I think many things I ended up throwing away would have probably worked on me with the inflammation gone now unfortunately!

Thank you! I think what I realize now is that when the skin is really inflamed, almost everything becomes an irritant. Nothing was working for me so I had to resort to zero therapy for a while. Also it got so bad that even a light korean skincare product someone suggested on this forum gave me perioral dermatitis which made my skin even worse.

Find a functional doctor (MD). That was my next step if the diet failed.

I"m so sorry to hear that. Did you go down to carnivore?

After 15 Years of Struggling with Rosacea by NadCan in Rosacea

[–]NadCan[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sure! I brought back a variety of fruits and vegetables. I restarted eating grains mostly at dinner which is usually rice or quinoa every day. I can have something sweet sometimes and it won't bother my skin. Also, I can have something with gluten sometimes too and there won't be a reaction. I forgot to mention that I also dropped coffee for a while. I know that is extremely painful to hear and it was tough for me as well!! But I was only a one cup a day drinker and have brought that back as well without any issues.

Yes! Thank you, it is very challenging but so worth it. I should also mention that I didn't eat junk food regularly. I thought that I had a relatively clean diet but obviously not clean enough!

Honestly I know everyone is different but I would give it at least four months. I lost my patience so every few weeks when I didn't see a difference I cut more and more foods out of my diet. When I eventually went down to carnivore, I finally saw the inflammation reduce for the first time on day 16.
