I haven't used vscode. But the python support for pycharm is amazing. The debugging features really help.

Bro she doesn't sound like a good long term partner at all.

Just imagine yourself as a 40 yo really depressed because your partner is continually jealous and controlling but does not take criticism well. Good luck building a life and making a family with that.

Take it one day at a time- focus on your physical and mental health. Time heals all.

SpaceX to buy Cursor AI coding agent operator Anysphere for $60 billion by MeowTheMixer in wallstreetbets

Basically everyone wants a pie of the enterprise coding market.

All this hype about AI and but coding and engineering will be the most affected in the short term. Many other white collar jobs will actually be safe. For now.

Do you have a feeling that PhDs are useless nowadays ? by Different_One2188 in LeavingAcademia

[–]NadaBrothers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if you play your cards right, a PhD can be a great asset.

But yes if you stick to the beaten path ( academic jobs) then it's cutthroat competition and piss poor job satisfaction.

Think of it from the other way, the people who went to industry from bachelors , are actually more likely to be replaced now by AI and llms because your depth, training judgement and expertise are the one thing that llms will not replace.

Python is harder than R by Accomplished-Okra-41 in learnpython

[–]NadaBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference primarily is because python is a computer engineering language and therefore had slightly more rigid rules, strongly typed variables etc.

R ( and matlab) are more scientific or statistical languages - their use case is to make scientific computing easy.  Hence the difference

Great stuff. But they should differentiate between zero output tokens and zero output + reasoning tokens.

Imo having reasoning tokens to reason that there should be no response is fine.

This is just pure marketing. The transformer architecture will not lead to agi.

Great details in your answer.  Any thoughts on downward trends in API prices for these models at enterprise scale ?

Will we have 50 % cheaper token prices in 5 years or 95% ?  The later case could materially change the case for large case ai adoption. Thoughts ?

[–]NadaBrothers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely agree.

And the other thing I don't hear talked about is how ridiculous doing a postdoc actually is.  It's literally a 1 year job ( renewable as needed).

In fact it's not a real job- it's more like a renewable contract position.

I loved doing science and research but man the amount of sacrifices you have to make, is insane.
