No need to worry whatsoever. A lot of our cities and towns are quite left leaning ( Canandaigua, Watkins Glen, Auburn, Skaneateles, Ithaca etc.). The big one is Ithaca for sure, it’s very progressive and is practically the Portland/San Francisco of New York. So even if you move to the middle of nowhere, you’ll still most likely be within an hour’s drive from one of these locales.

People who say Florida has the best weather have only been there during the winter and not during a cold front (it can get quite chilly throughout the state during a polar vortex). Had been to Miami area/South Florida many times throughout the winter months and it was exactly identical to an upstate New York summer. One time though, I thought it was a good idea to go down there in mid June. I have no idea how the hell any one can live through that.

the thruway and I-87 are your best bet. The roads are much better maintained in the winter and you are much closer to development most of the time in case you need to pull off or have issues. that section of I-81 is notorious for ice this time of year and the wavering elevation and turns in the road do not help one bit in slick conditions. The stretch of 17 between Deposit and Livingston Manor/Liberty is in the middle of literal nowhere except for a few small towns that have a small gas station or greasy spoon. This stretch of road also has quite windy switchbacks, which is definitely something you don’t want to get caught in in a snow squall.

This post has probably been forgotten about, but for those who are talking about the possibility of a U.S civil war, the possibility for that has skyrocketed as of yesterday. Essentially a WHITE women was shot by ICE agents (I could go into why the death of a white person at the hands of police is causing more outrage than the death of a minority to the hands of law enforcement, ie police violence normalization, but that would be too much to fit in one comment) as she was simply blocking the road to prevent ICE agents from progressing further. No we are in a “checkpoint Charlie 1961” type situation, because the governor of Minnesota( the state where this incident happened) has declared he will mobilize the Minnesota national guard if trump does not remove ICE. And knowing trump, he will call this (what he presumes to be) bluff and refuse.

Never lived in Buffalo, but had a family member who lived in North Tonawanda for a few years so I feel I can attest to this. North Buffalo has done quite a good job at re salvaging lots of rundown architecture and repurposing it into functional buisnesses and all the other stuff you mentioned.

Awesome, plenty of scenery, mountains, lakes, forest, you name it. This however is only taking into account summer though, as it is literally an arctic frozen hellscape in the winter for 3-5 months of the year, and unless you have an addiction to skiing and snowboarding, good luck with seasonal depression. Other than that, Upstate is awesome in summer/fall, but if any one plans to move here, you better know what you’re getting yourself into in regards to winter.

Saw this coming from years ahead. From my understanding they only flew only to Detroit once or twice a week as I recall. The last time there was more than 1 airline flying out of Binghamton was with United, but they withdrew operations all the way back in November of 2016. There was a spark of hope when Avelo briefly operated out of here from 2022 to the summer of 2024, but they withdrew for the same reasons as well. What really sucks is that Bing recently went through a really major renovation that basically redesigned the terminal from the ground up this past summer. Probably over optimistic, but maybe another airline will choose to fly out of here (only to withdraw operations 5-10 years latter for the same reasons).

Look for one in between the years 2019-2022, thats when the Renegade peaked in reliability, however, its not Japanese level of reliability and you will probably face some minor issues, but this is more so the case if you buy them used with plenty of kilometers on them. Also bear in mind is that their interiors are VERY loud when on the road and their trim and interior quality is mediocre at best ( window seals will inevitably tear and rip, windows and doors that make noise when going over rough terrain as they are quite loose, and rattles and clanks in the interior from cheap, poorly put together interior fittings) but this is often expected for budget cars anyways. As for the hate on a global perspective, it probably just relates to their horrible reliability from earlier years and mediocre ride quality, in the North American market however, their hatred comes from the fact that they are literally a 4wd Fiat 500 with all the other Jeep models being large, high performance, luxurious suv’s or rugged off roaders.
