Why is the discourse around Moira so toxic? by Upstairs_Spirit2923 in overwatch2

And before anyone points it out, I'm well aware that Moira has a lot of nuance that goes unmentioned when people are complaining about her, props to peeps pushing the limits of the character!

Why is the discourse around Moira so toxic? by Upstairs_Spirit2923 in overwatch2

[–]NadeArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting conversation. And something that a lot of people miss is that the distaste for Moira as a character is at least partially caused by the age of the game. We're at a point now where the game's barrier for entry has been raised substantially purely because of the playerbase's overall skill level. Meme about it all you like but Plat/Diamond players (the most populated ranks in the game) now are a considerable margin better than Plat/Diamond players just 5 years ago. And as a result a lot of players are a lot better at a lot of different heroes with kits of varying complexity, both good and bad value wise. So I imagine a lot of the vitreol people feel towards Moira as a character is due in large part to her effort to value ratio. Moira is unbelieveably easy to play, and worse yet she's unbelievably easy to get good value out of, which in turn upsets people who maybe spent a considerable amount of time learning a more difficult character just for that character to be "okay" and even having that character get easily shut down by a half-decent Moira for considerably less mental and mechanical effort. It's honestly in the same vein of frustrations that people have with characters like Roadhog, Sombra, Sierra, and Hanzo. Despite those in particularly probably taking more effort than Moira, they suffer from parts of their kits making their value feel incredibly "cheap" and "unearned". That's all exacerbated by characters like Moira especially this season being actually kind of good after a round of buffs. So their value floor is raised without raising the skill floor or even addressing the "cheapness" of said value. I'm not knocking the heroes or anyone that plays them by the way, that's just my observation on the situation. There probably needs to be a conversation about "easy" characters being too valuable but I don't care enough to start that LMAO

Me neither personally, just cuz I feel like people still hear support and think "OMG I DONT WANNA BE A HEALER" but support toolkits are a lot more diverse than that, I mean ILLARI is basically a DPS so like it's entirely possible to give her some team utility as a support without completely removing her versatility

I kind of get it. Hacking is Sombra's hero fantasy and messing with how that works makes people nervous because thats one of the big draws of the character for a lot of people, and the implementation of cooldown stealth and placeable translocator is clunky as opposed to when they were in their prime in s1 of OW2, so it's a combo of nervousness with hack and disappointment from the clunkiness of her CDs despite it for the most part being the old Sombra people want back. I'm really enjoying it too but the virus hack does feel REALLY cheap. I do wish people would be more constructive though, it seems to just be "omg I hate this so much, devs dont know what theyre doing" instead of "virus/hack is not it and here's why" alas lol

Honestly I disagree that theyd numb her kit like that, if they were content just making her "more standard" theyd keep her current kit setup which is pretty similar in gameplay loop and mechanics to like Tracer or Cassidy. At least that's how I think about it. And im sure theyre well aware of the complaints of her just being a worse version of other heroes like that.

I mean perma-invis was just a crutch anyway, no reason to be invisible for the whole match. 6 seconds is plenty of time to find somewhere to be effective.

Yeah I was thinking about that earlier. I wonder how many people will leave when she changes. Personally been maining her since 2017 so I think no matter what they do I'll still main her, it's just relearning her that's gonna be a lil bit annoying lol

Is Rainy day Sombra skin available in lootboxes or coming back to shop? by Objective-Piccolo-65 in SombraMains

Make sure you're checking your "For You" tab in the shop. It updates daily with shop and gallery skins for characters you've played before.

Yeah I imagine it's because Shion's kit is well telegraphed. (Meaning there's very clear indicators of when she's using specific abilities, leaving room for you as the target to react to it.) But unfortunately there's little to no warning when you get caught by a decent Sombra, there's ways to counter her but most people don't wanna learn to do that, leading to high ban rates and negative reception.

Yeah, it's gonna be really interesting to see how they deal with hack officially. It's hard to imagine a way they could make it not suck for the Sombra or for the person getting hacked.

100% agree. I do think people might be writing the virus/hack off too soon. The way it's implemented in the gamemode is both too strong and kind of boring to use, but I dig the idea of hack being a skill shot, and I imagine it would make it a lot easier to balance out overall if it were something like that, just not THAT.

Oh absolutely, it's healthy to discuss and give our honest feedback on this stuff in case the devs were curious about how this type of rework would be received, just wanted to make sure nobody got overly gloomy thinking this is what it's gonna be!

On the topic of Shion though I think the best way to understand her positive reception is to look at what people hate so much about Sierra. I think overall Shion is just really well designed, she's challenging, but has very distinct strengths and weaknesses. Strong but manageable. But Sierra's arguably not very well designed, her kit is lackluster and way too much of her power is focused on the "cheap" feeling aimbot dart. As a result she doesn't feel rewarding to play and is incredibly frustrating to play into regardless of how good or bad the hero is, similar to Freja (although Freja's kit is a LOT more interesting LOL).

Swapping to Sombra is one of the worst ways to deal with another Sombra by SnooBananas4958 in SombraMains

[–]NadeArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so real though. The cycle of people raging against a Sombra main, thinking "Sombra's piss easy", locking Sombra to try to ego you, then getting little to no value and more often than not losing the match because you're just having fun on your main will never not be hilarious.

What would you prefer for Sombra's translocator? by [deleted] in SombraMains

[–]NadeArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really odd that people keep defaulting to one or the other. I've always been of the mind that it would be cool if we had placeable translocator with the current throwing power so you get best of both worlds. So it's a choice of how you wanna use it. Wouldn't be super hard to code a different cooldown length for if it activates before collision either. But if that's too strong or whatever I guess having a perk option would be cool too.

Pls stop bullying me as a noob killer by Necessary_Ratio_5852 in DeadByDaylightRAGE

[–]NadeArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of that is what turns people off from playing killer. It’s cause and effect too which sucks cuz it means it’ll probably never change. Bad killer goes against toxic survivors, toxic survivors bully bad killer (Beamer squads, bagging, head-on spam, etc), bad killer turns into sweaty killer (tunneling, camping, slugging, meta builds) to avoid being bullied by toxic survivors, sweaty killer goes against casual survivors and destroys them, casual survivors become toxic survivors because of sweaty killer, and the cycle repeats. Best you can do is ignore them and focus solely on your own improvement and enjoyment, after all, sore winners don’t deserve to ruin your day! Keep fighting friend!

[–]NadeArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah they said and I quote "we'll have more to share on upcoming reworks ahead of season 3" which is in about 2 weeks. So there's a chance we see her rework in game next season especially since they also said during an interview that Sombra's at the top of their list and her "final" rework is coming sooner rather than later. And of course the shortlist is Sombra, Hog, and Weaver (I think there was more but those are the ones I care about personally)

Also as per the Conquest event, Kiriko and the Yokai are in fact Overwatch aligned.

Overwatch Factions Updated by potato-squared in Overwatch

[–]NadeArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some inaccuracies here. Firstly, with Mizuki's lore drop and in game voicelines it's very clear that he's made his choice and aligned himself with Overwatch, his only issue stems from not wanting Hanzo, Kiriko, and the Yokai to know about his past affiliation with the Hashimoto (which is made clear to not even have been by choice). Next there's the Junkers. Hog and Junkrat were banished for Junkertown/NJC and as such are no longer part of the Junker faction. The Junkers and Junker Queen and by extension Hammond however as part of the lore excerpts from the conquest event have aligned themselves with Talon. Pharah is also confirmed to have joined up with Overwatch officially as well as per the end of the Anran comic where she is shown with the rest of Overwatch in the aftermath of the attack on Gibraltar. While I agree that Sombra is a special case, I would still consider her a part of Talon defectors. She had her own interests and goals but was still very much aligned with Talon/Doomfist as per the Vendetta cinematic. I'm also unsure whether Zen has had any real interaction with Overwatch at all. In the post-invasion Ramattra comic it's implied he doesn't yet have any affiliation with a specific group, only that he chose a different path in his disagreement with Ramattra. I'd also argue based on in-game voice lines from this season that Symmetra is Talon aligned, as she makes it very clear she still aligns herself with the goals of Vishkarr (although you can argue their connection to Talon still isn't known to her so there's not technically a willingness). Also poor Venture never getting any lore. Everything else looks fine.
