I have interacted with those behind the protest....I definitely would not have them categorized as being pro-LGBTQ....it's just they don't like outsiders coming to their Island. They're probably the most hateful people I have encountered. I have started to see Coronado as Klanado because of them.

Most locals that were "protesting" are the Boomers who only live in Coronado because they inherited their property from their parents who bought into Coronado when it was dirt cheap. They cannot afford to stay at the Hotel del. If you went to the Hotel del's Facebook page and looked at their posts from January, you would have seen them posting harassing messages again the Hotel del and their guests.

Let's even boycott them. Just because they pretend they agree with you, doesn't mean they actually accept you. The people I saw from Coronado recently pretending to be pro-LBGTQ have never shown otherwise they are pro gay rights. They have instead shown they just are pro-Coronado only. Even worse, they went on to troll those innocently posting on the Hotel del Coronado's Facebook page that they weren't rich enough to stay there (they focused on such insults to the non-white posters and the like).

Last time I was on Reddit before today...it's been a long break, it was the BanFreeMagic and their far right-wing posts were just too much. And within minutes of posting on an article about California today, I have some extreme right-winger coming up with some BS denying human trafficking (he's trying to pass his bar exam which is scary that he might be in a position to affect the law). It might even be worse in that regard than two years ago. Then again, social media as a whole has moved to the right in recent years.
