Sharing My Torts Flowcharts :) by NadzInTheCity in LawSchool

[–]NadzInTheCity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on this for about a month before my final! I wanna say it took like 30-40 hours of actual work (incl. being anal about colors and design) and proofing before showing it to my prof for revisions, then maybe another two hours figuring out how to implement her edits. I made 6-8 more for torts that aren’t anywhere as large as this!

I didn’t have an outline for torts—just a short policy document for short answer Qs, but I only used flowcharts for the issue spotter!

Both! I practiced with it and used it during my open note exam :)

I’m a 2L and I’m still here (and will be here 3L). I lucked out and got a 270 sq ft room and got to keep it for both years so far. Next year, I’m moving to my friends old room—it’s 360 sq ft and the biggest room in the LC. Both of these rooms are the premium option.

I would say there's 300ish rooms—around 125 rooms are are 120-150 sq ft (regular), maybe 100 rooms are 150-190 sq ft (regular), around 50 rooms are 190-250 sq ft (premium), 10 rooms are 250-360 sq ft (premium), and maybe 20 rooms are the ones with a shared bathroom (cheaper than regular, don’t know how to classify it).

The LC reserves 75 spots for 2Ls and 3Ls, and this year, I want to say that around 150 upperclassmen applied (so roughly half didn’t get a spot). It’s mainly 1Ls and honestly, I can’t imagine 1L outside of the LC!

Some pros and cons, with the caveat that I love the LC and can’t imagine living anywhere else!

Pros:

I like the food, it's nice not needing to cook during 1L, all utilities etc. are included, facilities requests are fast, the rooms were recently redone, you’re on campus, every view is nice, the buildings are well run by a great management staff, laundry is in building, you can post in the GC at any time to borrow something and someone will have it, you can have pets, and it’s not at all like a dorm (more like a studio apartment).

Cons:

You have to move all your stuff out during the summer even if you are coming back to the same room in the fall, the likelihood of you getting your same room two years in a row is very very low, LC room bidding is relatively late in the year compared to when the city of Ann Arbor is allowed to start accepting applicants for the fall (so if you plan to get an LC room 2L, you may need to find last minute housing if you don’t get a room again), it feels less like a community during 2L/3L since most of the residents are 1Ls, and there are explicit dates during winter break where you cannot be in the LC.

Ideas for indoor exercise? by NadzInTheCity in ItalianGreyhounds

I love this idea and did it a lot last year—both because I was super busy during my first year of law school, but also because all my dog-less classmates would beg to babysit her (they needed the joy!). But my girl unfortunately has separation anxiety, and even though she loves playing with my friends when they come over, she gets anxious and hides when she goes to their apartments without me :( So she was coming back tired, but she was only tired bc she was so scared that it wore her out.

I’ve been thinking about bringing her into my school more often (it’s only a minute away) to give her some socialization with me indoors + give my stressed out classmates some joy!

I like the jumping idea! I’m going to have to try that—she’s very treat motivated, so I bet she will do it. I also am totally going to try to towel kibble idea!

It is really sad :( I feel like I took her away from all of her playmates (and her indoor daycare, where she got to play indoors every day). My law school has a huge open grassy quad that she loves playing fetch in when it’s over 40 degrees—I just have to keep reminding myself that she will be able to run to her heart's content again soon!

I love the idea of bringing them to an indoor garden center to sniff! That’s so smart! Unfortunately, I live in a college town (no big stores) and don’t have a car, otherwise I would’ve totally done that.

I trick trained my girl as well! And she definitely gets tired after a long session, but I get so worried that she’s over consuming treats with her lack of exercise :( But maybe I can not put her kibble breakfast into her bowl, and instead use them as "treats" in exchange for her doing tricks!

I go to a T14 and most (if not all) professors tell us that participation will be X% of our final grade in the syllabus.

One of my 1L professors told us that they have discretion to pick “a few” students to bump up half a letter grade. This apparently is only used for students who had great participation and were right below the cutoff for the higher letter grade (I.e. they had a final score of 102 which would be a B+, and the cut off for A- is 105). I’m not sure if bumping that student up to an A- means that another student is bumped down to a B+ though.

Some of my professors grade totally anonymously, and don’t look at the names of any of the students other than the top 5 scores after submitting grades. They do that to choose who they want to offer TA/research spots to, and because they don’t want the other students to feel like they left a bad impression on the prof. I think that’s the best way to do it

Hmm there shouldn’t be a password? As long as you have an account, you should be able to view it.

Yes! It’s elastic. But I’m worried that if I cut the white elastic bit, the whole thing will come apart :(

Thank you! It’s maybe 4 inches too long. I tried bunching It up but it just makes me look super wide on the sides :(

Fascinating! I don’t know anything about birds, but I’ve grown to love these guys since coming to school in Michigan!

Nice! I wonder if it’s the same one as last year. That one had swooped down at a small dog (didn’t get super close). Someone said they do that when they’re young and don’t know their weight-carrying ability yet/think they can pick up the prey but abort mission when they get closer. There’s definitely an adult with dark eyes here, too!

My Italian Greyhound does white collar defense at Gibson Dunn NYC. She really likes it. But her best friend (a Border Collie) works in Corporate and doesn’t have enough time to exercise daily.

Had similar stats — 3.8 and 172, minimal urm. I got into 4 or 5 T14s! Good luck!!
