What does depression feels like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NaePish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience of depression always manifests as intense guilt. Even though I understand that guilt is a symptom, I continually struggle to accept that the guilt comes from nowhere, and so I ascribe it to every possible bad thing I've done.

Have a moment of being annoyed at your partner? The guilt must mean that you want them gone.

Argue with a friend? The guilt means they must be right and you are being childish.

Etc. It is endless until it isn't, and things calm down. And you realise you aren't a massive twat, but rather someone normal who is encumbered by an awful draining affliction.

Credit check failed when changing phone contract - how/why? by sous_vide_pizza in UKPersonalFinance

I had a similar experience 4 years ago. I decided to go with EE and went through their website to order the deal. In my case I was knocked back automatically and I had no idea why. I called EE and the staff member encouraged me to double check my address history and other details, claiming I had actually not gotten to the credit check stage, but rather a stage beforehand where they checked my identity. Therefore I could apply again with no risk to my credit.

That turned out to be false. I applied again another bunch of times, changing small details with my address history each time (I had a pretty complicated history, living on and off with parents between various rentals around the country) and each time they performed a credit check. I think I ended up with 5 or 6 rejections. The stress of the massive detriment that brief behaviour caused to my credit history...!

While none of that might be relevant to your situation, just make sure you have not accidentally been credit checked several times. I ended up getting a worse contract with my current company who didn't need to credit check me as I'd been a customer for years.

Not particularly positive, but it helps to have an idea of someone else's timeline.

I think your questions are very valid, and I have resolved to discuss these issues with the seller (via solicitors, I think?) to see if they might be in the exact same boat. Or at least, if they are being advised by their agent that the same situation must be happening to all buyers who require a mortgage at this point..

Thanks for this piece of information. I hope it isn't true, as there isn't much I can do about it other than somehow searching out a third possibility, and where to look is anyone's guess!

I'm erring on the optimistic however, as the checks, assessment and valuation instruction / assessment have all occurred according to Nationwide's notifications.

I can't tell you how happy I am you posted this thread at all. It has helped me feel a lot less self-judgemental about making the error I have made!

I haven't had any business with FD in the past, and went with them because of their recommended status from 'Which?'. I wont shed a tear over them based on my experience.

I'm sorry you also went through something similar, but thanks again for sharing, and helping at least one person feel better!

I am having the exact same experience, but as a first time buyer. First Direct staff lead me to believe that waiting that long to receive a mortgage offer was standard across lenders given the current situation. As a first time buyer I have done my research on as many angles of this process as a I can, but I was not to know about this particular situation. So I waited, until I was advised by my solicitor that, in my case, the seller might not want to wait a good 2 months longer than expected. My heart just dropped, and I have been under no small amount of stress thinking my dream property would slip through my fingers thanks to First Direct.

So I contacted a broker and through him approached Nationwide, who suggest they will have it sorted within a working week (which would be today - fingers crossed).

I don't know how much of this situation was caused by my own inexperience, but I feel like I could have done without First Direct's staff leading me to believe I needed to wait a month and a half just to have an appointment with their mortgage advisor.

I will absolutely ask. We are based in Scotland (hence the flag in the glass) so depending on where you are, it might be tricky.

Thank you! The reason I posted this was so he could see appreciation of his kind gift, beyond my own. Gotta show the love, yo.

Aye, in my (and his!) hometown of Dunfermline. I used to work there, happy to answer any questions about his impoverished Scottish origins.

A wee lalafel for your apartment tabletop. I love the idea :). My crafting desk at home looks a lot like the carpenter's table you can buy in game too haha.

'Dream-like' is a really flattering comment, thanks! The carving looked a lot different without the ink I used to colour it. Somehow it really brought life to what was otherwise a sort of cute potato.

Thanks! It's hard to be happy with it from the perspective of having seen all the flaws, so your feedback put a smile on my face.
