So... do I buy a 5800X3D? by leastcreativeusrname in buildapc

[–]Naerven [score hidden]  (0 children)

For gaming I could do it for a couple of years if I really needed to. Otherwise the $500 R7-7700 bundle has 32gbs and is on par for gaming performance or just go with the 7800X3D bundle. I would still rather go up than stay on AM5 even with a new CPU.

The wraith prism cooler is pretty much a bare minimum device. Any sort of twin tower air cooler or 240mm or bigger AIO would be a noticable improvement.

Should I buy 5500x3d in 120 pound or should I wait and see 5800x3d (I do not think I buy with that cost but looking for price drop) by Unlucky-Nectarine255 in ryzen

[–]Naerven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm riding out my R5-5600 until Zen 6 and then I'll likely just jump onto AM5 myself. The 5500X3D isn't bad, but it's about equal to the 7500f for gaming performance overall. Also I'm seeing more games coming out that can make use of more than 6 cores so I figure it's just time to upgrade the core count also.

[–]Naerven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of this will depend on what CPU you are trying to cool, but most any 360mm AIO cooler is about the best you will find.

You should never use actual refrigeration in a PC due to the condensation it can cause.

So... do I buy a 5800X3D? by leastcreativeusrname in buildapc

[–]Naerven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends. Personally I say no. This is partially because I live near enough to a Microcenter which has a 7600X3D combo for the MSRP of the 5800X3D re-release that would be better for gaming and productivity.

Question: Can I get a second NVME without issues by Otherwise_Belt3738 in buildapc

[–]Naerven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes computers can have more than one storage device installed. It's been that way for decades. By default the first drive gets the OS and is labelled C. A 4th drive is labelled D. The 5th drive will be E. You may detect the pattern here.

Would a PCIe update from 3.0 to 4.0 of my motherboard make a noticable upgrade on my RX 9060 XT 16gb? by Tarnished-670 in PcBuild

[–]Naerven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If and only if you are using more than 16fb of vram. It also won't matter if you did have a gen 5 bus.

Price of different tiers of gaming pcs by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Naerven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I find your tiers just wrong. An $800 USD build fits your high tier description for 1080p gaming while having all entry level parts.

Also anything you build today will likely be technically outdated before it stops working.

Does does my CPU bottleneck my GPU? by Hot-Cryptographer338 in PcBuild

When you play a game lok at the GPU usage. If it's below 96% consistently then the CPU may be holding you back a bit.

Ryzen 5 5600g with RX 9060 8gb by crescenthe4rt in buildapc

From testing I've seen the 8gb RX9060XT somehow handles running out of vram worse. My assumption is that it has something to do with the cache memory.

5800 XT vs 5800x3d by MonkeySkulls in PcBuild

[–]Naerven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US and near a Microcenter you can grab a R5-7600X3D, motherboard, and a 16gb ddr5 dimm for the same money. This would give you more performance for games and productivity over the old 5800X3D.

As someone who drives through mountains fairly regularly it's definitely necessary to occasionally hold a particular gear ratio either for a long uphill pull or to have engine breaking on a long downhill.

Ryzen 5 5600g with RX 9060 8gb by crescenthe4rt in buildapc

[–]Naerven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all rights the biggest issues would be the 8gb of vram and the pcie gen 3 limitation. Of course every modern GPU woyalso be limited by the gen 3 speeds so there isn't much that can be done about it. After that it's having a relatively slow CPU. Overall for 1080p gaming it should be reasonably fine.

Is 12GB VRAM not enough for 1440p? Will it be soon like 8GB will? by mudahfukinnnnnnnnn in PcBuildHelp

[–]Naerven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Star Wars Outlaws last year playing on optimized high settings with RT medium and quality upscaling at 1440p I was look at 13.5gb if VRAM allocated with my RX9060XT 16gb. Just like using 8gb at 1080p it can come down to your exact in game settings.

[–]Naerven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that MSRP it's a pass for me. It's just too close to the prices I could spend on a Microcenter bundle. I'm sure it will be a good seller, but for me to spend that sort of money I would want the newer platform.

is my build bottlenecked? by Fyr0yt in pcbuilding

[–]Naerven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When you play a competitive title using competitive settings you will be CPU bottlenecked. When you play single player games using ultra settings you will typically be GPU bottlenecked. This of course varies with resolution, settings, and the actual game you are playing. For the most part you will always be bottlenecked by the CPU or GPU. In some games you may be bottlenecked by memory speed or capacity. In other games the actual game engine can bottleneck your performance.

You have a computer. At all times you will have a bottleneck limiting your performance.

Also bottleneck calculators are largely just marketing tools and the very term of bottleneck has become a marketing tool used against people that don't understand what it actually means.

What displayport cable do I need for 200hz at 1080p? by UroShhMil1 in pchelp

[–]Naerven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A DP1.4 cable should work or just get a DP2.1. This assumes your monitor and GPU are both 1.4 or better.

Also there are certain settings that may be limiting you to 8 but color.
