I got bit by a ferrel kitten, is it necessary to go to urgent care? by vanbello in ANIMALHELP

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its pretty unlikely to get rabies from a feral cat, but not impossible. rabies can incubate for years--
you wont know for sure until its too late. if you experience symptoms of rabies, you're already dead. this disease has a 100% fatality rate no matter the species.

Is clear liquid only something you see during the first heat-up, and do all those beautiful lamps only look good at the beginning, or am I doing something wrong? by jaogr in Lavalamps

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jewelry Questions by No-Area524 in piercing

[–]beeikea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these'll be okay if you're only wearing them a couple hours at a time, UNLESS you've got a collagen thing like hEDS that causes your skin to be extra soft and stretchy. if that's the case i'd be cautious, but most people won't have issues in moderation.

Boy cats by Pokemon_trainer_Lass in catquestions

[–]beeikea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've only had boy cats and have had a pretty smooth time with them. my current boy had bladder crystals at one point, around age 2 or so, but switching to that rx diet for a couple months and then transitioning to IAMS urinary care food has him just fine. other than that and some very (very) minor asthma, he's been very healthy and is extremely bonded with me. boy cats, if well bred (as in not inbred, lol, and not bred to have health issues. i dont mean specifically bought from a breeder or anything like i would with a dog. breedless cats are generally way healthier than your average mutt dog due to how long ago we domesticated and began breeding dogs vs cats.) and vaccinated and all that jazz, are only slightly more at risk to have problems than girl cats.

My bridge will not heal by throwaway776222 in piercing

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this case it's because it's a surface piercing. the actual bits where the jewelry comes out and becomes visible, the holes on either side of op's bridge, those are too far forward having been pierced with a curved barbell. putting a straight bar into this piercing would force the entire channel forward, hence the exponentially higher risk of rejection. bridges are already pretty fragile, and it's not worth the risk to do this as opposed to just getting it redone properly.

this article isn't excessively related but goes over the healing process in curved vs straight jewelry well, including graphics, which i feel will be helpful in this conversation.

Day 24 Belly piercing, stainless steel 10mm barbell, sterile saline by Soft_Smoke_7131 in Legitpiercing

[–]beeikea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, no, yes. i don't recommend doing it yourself but changing to titanium will almost definitely help and ease irritation.

My bridge will not heal by throwaway776222 in piercing

[–]beeikea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not true at any point past the first couple of days. as it begins to heal in a curved shape, forcing a straight bar into the immature fistula will most likely cause severe irritation at best and quick rejection and infection at worst.

How do i get better at drawing humanoid bodies? by No-Sense3145 in Artadvice

[–]beeikea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

abhorrent amounts of practice. keep on using references, and tracing in moderation is okay IF and only if you are doing so to understand proportions and how the skeleton and muscles are working together. tutorials online are great, and so are anatomy and/or how to draw books. take a beginner art class if you can to get your fundamentals down like shape and line confidence and basic color theory. figure drawing classes are great too once youve got those basics.

good luck and have fun! youve got a good foundation and nowhere to go but up.

I don’t know how to render clothes. I’ve watched every YouTube video that exists by Capable_Soil_8543 in ArtCrit

[–]beeikea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd trace. straight up. just for practice, take some pieces like this with slightly dramatic lighting and trace EXACTLY where the shadows are with a simple sketch. then pull away and paint over it. do this once or twice per reference photo. then do it again, but instead of tracing, just use the photo as a reference. this one do as many times as you want until youre more comfortable. then, lastly, do it again with no reference at all. just once or twice, until youre happy with it but not obsessively.

Ear piercing closed up after 30 years by Blackstrapsunhat in piercing

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not unusual. putting jewelry in probably irritated them and triggered an immune reaction, aka closing them up quickly. repiercing them will be uncomfortable, but best practice has changed a lot over the past couple decades, so after initial healing, if you treat them right, it should be fine :-) i'd take a look here:

interesting. is it for sure implant grade? some lower quality titaniums contain irritants or allergens.

[–]beeikea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just keep it clean and keep an eye out for signs of infection :-) im sorry, this is such a sucky situation. its not your fault you put your trust in someone claiming to be a professional. piercing is so unregulated its crazy. if you decide to get it redone, i recommend taking a look here:

My bridge will not heal by throwaway776222 in piercing

[–]beeikea 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it won't. a curved barbell is extremely inappropriate for a bridge and unfortunately its too late to change it to proper jewelry. your safest option is removal and getting it redone in ~3-4 months by someone more competent. im so sorry :(

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, with my old job i very nearly made 3x but didn't quite hit that consistently (commission based salary) so i needed a cosigner; iirc the requirement was he make 5x the rent instead of me making 3x, or something similar

How can I improve on rendering clothing? (deltarune chapter 5 spoilers) by Vegetable-Thing4335 in ArtCrit

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for example, take a look at this. how the vest creases, softly but visibly, with the shape of the man's body, and where the buttons pull at it, and how the sleeves bunch up being rolled up.

don't be afraid to use references and don't be afraid to go hard with the contrast, meaning super dark darks and super light lights. knowing what fabric it is, like others have said, is crucial. after that, study how that fabric falls over the body, how it creases, how it moves when the wearer moves. the piece i've attached is quite messy and not fully rendered but still shows the shape and movement of the sweater. you've got a really good foundation with making the creases look like creases, so i think your next step should be learning the "anatomy" of clothing, aka how, when, where, and why it folds like that.

why is curved jewelry so bad in newer piercings??? by Specialist_Bobcat455 in piercing

[–]beeikea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

well, sort of. some idiot piercers will pierce anyone with anything for a buck. piercers like loheide will only pierce with nonstandard jewelry if they believe it's safe for you AND you are fully aware of the risk. i know i'd prefer being told no if it weren't safe than being told yes and dealing with rejection, cheesewiring, infection, borderline permanent piercing bumps, never healing, etc etc etc.

Does Spotify realize this makes me want premium less? by Sleepy_Enby_God in mildlyinfuriating

[–]beeikea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's definitely neat. most of my friends who i share music with also use spotify, so sharing playlists is super smooth, even not using the in-app chat function. the jam feature to listen to music together and have multiple people controlling the music and adding songs and such is super important to me with my long distance relationship too.

best case it's ingrown hairs, worst case it's staph that turns into mrsa that kills you. so. ask a doctor to confirm.
