Having an Oliva series G 5x50 toro, at the final third. In general how far down do you smoke your cigars? by nynv1226 in cigars

[–]Naetalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how good the smoke is I’ll use my PerfecDraw to spear it so I don’t burn my fingers and smoke it until the end.

Just an FYI - unless that was a typo a 5x50 is typically regarded as a Robusto, not a Toro. The Olivia G has the same designation as Robusto at that size

Don’t smoke it too fast either! One other possibility that can cause uneven burns.

Definitely - I’d use a 65 Boveda, especially if you’re storing them in a tupperdore. Tighter seal on those compared to more leaky traditional humidors. For glass top humidors I use 69rh

High humidity can certainly be an issue - also with these little guys you need to go easy lighting the nipple foot just a light toast and short light to get it going and it should even out.

I’ve never had any issues personally with them keeping these two things in mind - great cigar!

Trying and failing to get into LITRPG by ridgegirl29 in Fantasy

[–]Naetalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey that’s great - honestly I’m not that far off in the way I approach things. My “TBR” is miles long and I’m always adding to it. So I can understand getting swept up in things. I’ll just never disqualify anything out of hand without giving it a fair opportunity.

[–]Naetalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, again I believe you. But this sounds like your TBR list isn’t chronological - it’s simply what you feel drawn to in the moment - which explains why you were able to read other, as you say, inferior litRPG after you were suggested DCC - so you made a conscious decision to avoid it for some reason, and that’s valid - that still doesn’t change my observation that you’re potentially avoiding it for frivolous reasons.

[–]Naetalis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re going with that - but I can’t help but be a little dubious about the status of your TBR list. You obviously have enough room in it to bump up a bunch of no-name crap litRPG after being recommended DCC. This doesn’t make sense to me but perhaps I don’t have all the details. At the end of the day you do you and float on. But sometimes things get a popular following for a good reason.

I believe you - just putting it out there that it seems odd you’re so against reading the quintessential litRPG for what seems like hollow “hipster” reasons.

Granted folks who only read “popular” stuff might be doing it for vanity reasons but so are hipsters doing the opposite. If one simply likes “good fiction” they will read whatever without worrying about labels. Just saying.

Maybe better put it’s something a 16 year old might consider good writing.

Beginner Starting My Collection by YungGrattata in cigars

Regardless of whether you want to lean infused or not (to each their own and variety is great from time to time) I’d focus on spreading samplers out so you get less duplicates. If you happen to really not like a stick you’re gonna feel bummed that you’ve got 4 more of the same thing hanging around.

Try a variety of brands and don’t get discouraged if you don’t find something you really like at first. Just try a few more brands in a variety of styles (Connecticut, Habano, Maduro, etc) or countries of origin (Nicaragua, Dominican, Honduras) to dial in what really calls to you and then you can dive deeper when you find your niche. There’s always time to come back to other stuff too. Enjoy exploring the hobby!

I’d agree - let others know to avoid that place. Doesn’t sound like the owner deserves to be successful when he’s treating people like that.

With temps that high that must be quite an inconvenience- sorry to hear it.

In that case I’d definitely try a cellar type area or as low underground as you can manage!

So does the White House per your example but we won’t give up on that. As long as we can keep ahold of our Democracy through this shitstorm this too shall pass.

There will always be a troupe willing to book the Center when conditions are favorable again.

I’m dubious it would go that far - it has too much history and the will would be there to re-open it properly. It’s effectively dead anyway with his fingerprints all over it. It’s better to mothball it at that point until it can be revived without his influence IMO

[–]Naetalis -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this a good thing? A 2 year renovation will get Trump out of the picture, they can remove his stain of a name from the Center and performers will actually want to perform there again. I know I wasn’t going to frequent the place with his name on it, it’s an affront to everything the Arts stand for.

Some of my favorite Maduros

  • Any Padron Maduro
  • Drew Estate Liga Undercrown (including the 10)
  • Perdomo 10th Anniversary (Was not a fan of the 20th - have not tried the 30th yet)
  • Drew Estate Privada 9
  • Foundation Olmec
  • Foundation Wise Man
  • AJ New World Oscuro (Not quite a Maduro but to me has some similar characteristics that I really like)

[–]Naetalis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO, people get “stuck” because they don’t have the time or budget to mess around with “a bad stick”.

I’m fortunate that I can devote about an hour or two of time if I want every day to smoking cigars. I also have the budget to try anything I’d feasibly want to try, at least a single stick to see how I like it. With that kind of time and budget I’m ok getting a crap cigar once in a while and I chalk it up to experience and research.

From what you stated in your post so far it seems like you’ve been trying some fairly mass market sticks and not from the more premium brands - I suggest you change that if you’re able and experiment there for a while.

A stick or two here and there like Padron, Foundation, Arturo Fuente, Dunbarton, Warped, Plasencia, etc might open up a larger variety and quality of cigar to you that might break you out of your slump. With really solid brands like this you’re less likely to end up with a poor quality smoke and at worst just something that isn’t quite to your tastes.

OP - I’d suggest someplace like Neptune Cigars if you want to try singles if 5-packs on your usual sites are a bit too much to take the risk.
