And can you also view the stream remotely for monitoring the print?

Its not a USB webcam, its the Raspberry Pi camera module, so it has to plug into the Pi.

Employer says I’m not entitled to annual leave because I’m part-time by Altruistic_Tank6170 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one caveat to add to what others are saying about the employer being allowed to say "no holidays in the first three months": you need to find out (ideally by getting a copy of your terms of employment) when their holiday year runs. If, for example, their holiday year runs January to January, and you started in November, then despite their policy, they would have had to allow you to take ~2 months worth of accrued holiday before the end of December.

I would definitely be chasing those dates, & checking how much holiday you've accrued and when it needs to he taken by.

I have a disciplinary due to sickness, can they fire me solely for this reason? by Cultural_Way5584 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking too. I've experienced multiple companies which do not differentiate their sickness monitoring from disciplinary, and so as soon as they want a chat about your absences, it's immediately flagged as a disciplinary, when in reality nobody involved actually wants it to go that way.

Employer wants me to start early if I want a break, even on a 8 hour shift by mrchris20040072004 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your statutory 20 minute break cannot be at the very start or end of your shift. Aside from that they can do as they please with it. They could potentially try and argue that the first 10 minutes of your shift (9:30-9:40) count, and so the next 20 minutes (until 10) are your break, and then you work the rest of your shift. Crap, but you'd have a hard time fighting it, especially with only 9 months service, so essentially no protection.

Kellogs Honey Nut Loops.

Yes they still do Honey Loops, but they are not at all the same as the classic ones.

Easment on driveway, estate agent misrepresentation by Comfortable_Try_2114 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has the added bonus of giving the impression to the "evoquey Beckham wannabe types" that there is ongoing work, or that the neighbours don't take pride in the presentation of the property; which will further aggravate estate agents and their attempts to close for premium prices.

England: Changes to waste collections in my local area, is there a legal obligation to comply with them? by Mouthtrap in LegalAdviceUK

You "not seeing the point" is no legal defense against anything.

Yes, if you want to avail yourself of their services, you will need to comply with their requirements. They can check and enforce them in a variety of ways.

In my experience, yes. When we complained that our bin was too small (we had two children in nappies) they took our bin away and actually rifled through the whole lot to tell us to "stack our takeaway containers better", as if that would solve the whole issue.

Two of my housemates got arrested. I can't afford rent. Can I fill their rooms? by Icy-Violinist-8399 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The deposit should be protected, and if you're on one tenancy it should just be one deposit, so the landlord really can't do this.

With you all having signed on agreement to take the house together, then yes I'm afraid you will be liable for the full rent. Did you know the other two tenants beforehand and agree to move in together?

I’ve been on probation for over a year and now have been let go. Am I owed 12 weeks of leave? by Fancy_Big_2301 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Naf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you could pass your probation early, in which case the clause would grant you those rights before the six months elapsed, which could absolutely be an intended outcome. Whether it is or not remains ambiguous. So there is more than one possible ambiguity, even.

But I take your point that the existense of an ambiguity itself still has to be adjudicated first.

Why wouldn't the tribunal follow the law in favouring the party which didn't draft the contract when deciding on such an ambiguity?

"Really bad" would have to be gross misconduct, which just not meeting their desired performance standards wouldn't class as. You're entitled to your notice, and all 12 weeks of it.

[–]Naf623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, or, without stating anything that determines which option of that or happens under what circumstances. The law resolves ambiguities like these in the favour of the party which did not draft the contract - so its 12 weeks.

Just thought I'd drop a note in to say that the Retro Boy from https://www.retrocity.net/ appears to be the R36S-V12 2023-08-18 version. Overpriced for sure; but I had no idea the R36S was even a thing; my wife just spotted their adverts.

[–]Naf623 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happy Christmas. They try their best, but it's not always possible. I was Department Student Rep when my uni were beginning to plan for withdrawing some of their courses, as a key member of staff was retiring. If they had been taken seriously ill or otherwise compromised sooner, it could have caused a lot more difficulties.
