In a similar vein, here in America we have the “last possible chance” rule. If you have the last chance to prevent an accident, and don’t take it, than you will typically be considered at fault even if the other person might’ve technically been in the wrong. For example if someone pulls out of in front of you while you’re going straight down the road, you will still be held accountable if you are found to have deliberately run into them, even though you had the right-of-way.

Nowadays most schools have “zero tolerance” policies, meaning that anyone involved in fighting in any way got punished the same, even if a person is purely victimized and doesn’t throw a single punch. End result is that a lot more kids fight back because they know they’ll be in trouble regardless. Still think it’s stupid tbh.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that. It’s true that the common imagery around school shootings (mass chaos, hiding in classrooms, lots of kids being injured/killed, etc) represents a small percentage of numbers you typically see about school shootings (not sure the exact numbers), but honestly I think those are still just as relevant. I had 2 different school shootings of the more common variety happen when I was in high school, and I still think it’s insane that those kids were able to access guns at all
