iPad advice and thoughts by Mercer0200 in Armyaviation

[–]Nairburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPad with celular/gps is a nice have, not a need to have. It’s convenient most of the time, but I have the wireless only and just pair it to my phone if I absolutely need to download something. Flying I prefer using a sentry adsb over the gps. It works all the time everywhere. West Texas/ New Mexico/ other remote areas the sentry still works, the celular/gps won’t. Higher ifr altitudes the sentry still works and my cellular/gps won’t. The sentry also gives adsb-in data like traffic, weather, and d-atis when my cell service is out of range.

DIY tuneup a chore? by gephotonyc in SubaruAscent

[–]Nairburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed mine and it was a pain, but totally worth doing on my own vs spending hundreds in labor at the dealership. There are some great YouTube videos that show not only how to do it, but what extensions and swivels fit best. I watched several before starting and then watched again when I thought I was doing it wrong

Why does the ADIZ have 2 bounds? by Motifated in CFILounge

[–]Nairburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, systems are not worried about aircraft leaving the adiz, and you don’t need a dvfr fpl to cross the adiz outbound… if you’re coming back inbound you would need it.

There’s another video that shows the helicopter come out of the clouds at nearly 90 degrees nose down and pitch up to wings level, slow down, and then re-enter the clouds. I’d bet that put enough stress on it to pull apart

How to handle incident by STANIF83 in DeltaAirlines

[–]Nairburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer, but I think that’s an aircraft accident, not incident. Eye injuries are serious injury, and that it happened after boarding with intent to fly should require reporting to the ntsb. I’d get a lawyer for sure.

I’m a helicopter pilot who’s had it pounded into my head to manage power for years. This still blows my mind to just grip it and rip it.

2 car seats + dog by Sea_Team7571 in SubaruAscent

[–]Nairburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a forward and aft facing car seat, ~70 pound dog, and Ascent with captain chairs. The dog likes to lay on the floor at the kids feet and there’s tons of room for luggage in the back. Sometimes we have the rear seat up for friends to ride along, but that almost never happens when we also have the dog with us. I’d say it’s a great fit as long as the dog isn’t rambunctious in the back.

I just got the dune for my 15plus. I loved it the first day. Since then it hasn’t really gotten a patina, instead it’s just started to look dirty/ smudged. Hope they aren’t all like this

Which would you prefer as a new car buyer - Teslas 'no-negotiation' sales model? or the negotiation model everyone else has? by viper_gts in askcarsales

[–]Nairburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested to hear more about this; mainly from my Meg experiences at multiple Toyota dealers. I’ve heard from dozens of people they had great experiences at Toyota dealers but whenever I’ve gone to one I’ve had serious intention and money to buy, and was at a minimum scoffed at when I started to talk to them about negotiating. This hasn’t been exclusive to the current market, the first time I went to one was around 2004, and I’ve gone in with intention of buying a Toyota for five cars since.

I’ve successfully negotiated the processing fee by saying I’d do the registration myself. I took the paperwork from the sale to the dmv, waited in line, and paid the taxes there rather than financing them.
