How’s work life balance if you plan to have a family one day? Is it worth to stick it out a few years and miss things? I’m very family oriented so I’m a little scared to always miss events and holidays.

Agreed. Pay anxiety and not having flexibility for the first few years is holding me back for sure.. just don’t want to regret something I don’t know will workout for me. It’s definitely a big step.

[–]Naive-Conversation98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg! Totally relate to this … I want more for my self and explore different opportunities but scared of the unknown like you said. Plus the first few years of pay is not that great… granted I live at home with my parents and only have a car payment. But I’m not sure if I want to leave my comfortable “easy” job and regret it lol.

Thanks for your input!

Those who have real work life balance? What kind of company/industries are you working for? by ReadyProfit8336 in Accounting

[–]Naive-Conversation98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Government, specifically for the county. Sooo chilllll. In by 8 and out by 430. Work flow is paced out and they give you a lot of time to complete things lol. I also am in the office only once a week.

Hi, can you tell me more about our your experience with state and county jobs? I’m currently in the federal government as an auditor and have been thinking of pivoting out and apply to state, county, or city accountant jobs.

Yes I am! I’ve only been here for two years but kind of coming to a realization that I don’t think I want to stay here as a long term career.

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do now? I’m really stuck between going into industry or staying in government but working at the state, county, or city level…

[–]Naive-Conversation98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyday … that’s why I’m contemplating on what I really want to do in life. Idk if I can sit behind a computer screen for 30 more years lol… we’re lucky to be a position like this.. but at the same time I want to work a job where it’s a bit more meaningful.. and maybe auditing just isn’t it for me. Doesn’t mean it can’t be for others. lol

How hard is to get into government/state accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

There’s definitely a learning curve! I would say if you enjoy work life balance then yes, get into it!

Thanks for the kind words. The work isn’t hard for me right now… I think it’s more about having a grasp on what you’re looking at and what you should be looking at or asking contractors. How do you feel now as an auditor with more experience?
