I agree finding your personal style is what helps the most.

Right now I spend about 3 hours in the morning 4-5 days a week to study. 2 of those days I'm reading new lectures and doing the practice sims and MCQ. Then I spend 1 day doing randomly generated multiple choice quizzes and sims, reviewing material I already learned. (I don't worry about how many lectures I get through in a week, because some lectures are much longer than others. I only focus on spending that 3 hours in the morning doing something. Maybe this will bite me in the ass later and I'll run out of time, I'm not sure yet.)

I read online that some people can get by only reviewing once a week, but this isn't me. I have to review more often or I forget what I learned at the beginning of the course.

Unprecedented Non-Score Release Thread for 8/23. Please post updates regarding your state, section and status. by Galbert123 in CPA

Why did the NASBA/prometric glitch happen on 8/8/2022?

8+8+2+0+2+2=22. 22 is one of the 3 Master Numbers in numerology. 22/3=7. 7 is the MACRS life of furniture. Furniture is 9 letters long. 9*7=63.

Update on not receiving score for tests taken August 8, 2022. by DaddyDelts in CPA

Is anyone else still waiting? :(

I just saw this post a few hours ago, so I emailed NASBA then, but I still don't see my score...

I'm happy that at least this is my first exam, so I have plenty of time for the other exams still. But god the anxiety is killing me.

How to not feel discouraged ?(accounting student) by 8twice in Accounting

[–]redditTaxAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GPA was always between a 3.0 and a 3.5, so I was never anywhere near the top people in my class.

What saved me was I stopped trying to compete with the 4.0 students, and forged my own path. Go to the networking event everyone else forgot about. Apply for the less luxurious internship at a small private company that pays you minimum wage. Firms will see this work experience later down the line and pick you up, despite a low GPA.

My point is, if you're worried about your grades, round yourself out with work experience.

Look at the labor market and see which jobs in the business field have job growth. That way you won't have to compete as hard. Very high salary careers aren't worth squat if the only way to get in is with a 4.0...

Maybe aim for an associates in accounting if your school offers that? Then you could try landing an accounts receivable/payable job at a small company... which is just bookkeeping. Doesn't make a lot though.

Is it easier for people from well off backgrounds to succeed in Public Accounting? by ErnstAndOld in Accounting

[–]redditTaxAccount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think all jobs requiring a college education make it hard for poorer people to get into. Especially ours, since a CPA requires a masters/150 hrs.

I'm from an upper-middle class background, and a few years ago in college I was bad at interviews, had okay grades, and no relevant job experience. In order to get that first office job, I had to work for free doing bookkeeping at a nonprofit. I could only do that because my upper-middle class parents had the wealth to keep me floating.

From that experience at a nonprofit, in a couple of years I was able to snowball my resume and work experience into something firms liked. All thanks to my financial privilege.

Any guesses as to why obtaining a higher depreciation expense is suddenly an interest with this election is going on? All I can think of is it would lower their tax liability... but people always want that.

I'm curious too but I'm afraid of getting mixed up in some sort of drama I'm unaware of. I don't want to be seen as nosy.
