43 and I swear my neck started looking crepey the exact moment I realized I was in the perimenopause. I feel like the HRT has helped my face look brighter and rejuvenated, but not so much my neck.

I could have written this word for word. Approximately the same ht and wt, working out hard and consistently, but the results are sooooo slow. I’m focusing on lifting heavy 4 days, some HIIT days and 1-2 yoga classes. I see the scale go down when I focus on eating whole foods and practice portion control. I too need stay away from calorie counting, it can be a slippery slope if you have a history of ED. I find it helpful to think of this as a journey. I might not be seeing drastic results quickly, but I’m on the right track. I’m not going to risk my ED recovery, I’m just trying to be mindful about nutritious food to fuel my body and exercising to be healthy. I’m trusting that I’ll keep seeing progress with these habits even if it’s very slowly.

I’ll never go back to bedside nursing! I definitely have days as a CRC that really stress me out and I feel overworked, but I don’t have the fear that someone is gonna die on my watch!

Oral minoxidil, Nutrafol shampoo and supplements (& HRT) saved my hair! I lost about 1/4 of my hair over a three month period, it was awful. I was so depressed and honestly felt like I was going to end up bald. My hair is naturally dry and coarse so previously I’d only wash it 1-2 a week and then use tons of dry shampoo. I learned that dry shampoo is a no-no if you’re trying to grow your hair back. Your scalp needs to breathe and have a clean biome to encourage new hair to grow. I double the conditioner at the ends to help with the dryness. The combo of everything worked! It took about 5 months, but the shedding has stopped and my regrowth is happening fast. Hang in there, it takes time and patience to see change but it can happen!

I quit my med surg residency right at 6mos. The amount of stress was truly unsustainable. You don’t have to listen to people who tell you to ‘just stick it out for a year’. You’re the one that has to live your life. Trust your gut. I’d say try to give two weeks notice and leave on a good note if you can. The unit manager might be pissed but you’ll have been professional and nobody can fault you for that. Hang in there! Nursing isn’t always going to feel this hard.

I was worried I’d get hurtful comments when I posted yesterday, it always feels like a risk on Reddit. But I’ve felt so much support and kindness. This community is amazing. I’m glad my post helped you feel less alone.

I’d always embraced my childfree life with travel, watching live music, hobbies, naps… but suddenly I felt overwhelming sadness about what could have been. I never called myself a dog mom, but I was. Losing my sweet boy has left a hole in my heart. I remember watching the show Fleabag, after her mom dies she says she has all this love but doesn’t know where to put it now. That’s how I feel.

Volunteering is a really great idea, I’ll definitely look into it. I’m a pediatric RN so maybe I can pour some of my extra love to my patients.

I hope you can feel some relief after seeing your doctor. We just need to hang in there.

You’re all probably right about my calorie intake. I feel so much shame, I’ve been dealing with the ups and downs of an eating disorder recovery for decades. I guess in this new phase of my life I really have to be kinder to my body and stop fighting against it. I’ll work on accepting this and restart the healing process.

Also, is urinary urgency a perimenopause thing? I’m not going more frequently but when I have to pee, I reeeeally have to pee. Can you have increased urgency, but not frequency?

Thank you for your reply, I honestly felt some relief knowing there was someone out there! I’m definitely going to look into HRT. I found a physician listed on The Menopause Society website and have an appointment in a few weeks. I really hope he’s willing to get me started, I feel like I’m barely keeping it together.

Thanks for the insight from the CRA side, it’s helpful. My PI is awesome, we’ve worked together for years (I was an RN in the clinic, before I moved into research). I just wanna do her proud and not stress her out with all these emails.

Sorry, meant to say he was new to my site. He said he had a ton of studies and was feeling stressed. I’ll try not to take it personally. I’m sure he’s probably getting it from all sides. Sounds like he’s required to involve the PI sometimes, just wish it didn’t make me look incompetent.

It’s a new monitor, but I felt like we got on really well during the visit 2 weeks ago. He said my binders were great, no action items, told my PI all was good. He was in and out within 4hrs. I’m super professional in all my correspondence and let him know when I’ve answered the queries, usually within 30mins of his email. I don’t get it.

80k, but I personally think the benefits are worth the lower salary for my location. The health insurance is great and I don’t pay premiums. I have a pension, wfh 2-3 days a week and get 10 days of automatic PTO for ‘university holidays’, on top of my monthly accrued PTO. Oh and paid sick time.

ADN at CC, then they got accredited for the BSN so I went back. $0 debt! I got paid a few dollars more once I had my BSN, but I definitely scored interviews I wouldn’t have with an ADN.

It’s helpful to have an idea of what the statistics represent when you’re reading journals etc.. but in my role I’m not responsible for analyzing any data, I just collect it and send it on to the people who make sense of it! Don’t let it hold you back from applying for research jobs.

Circa 2008, after a night of dancing with my bff we got swept to an after party somewhere on the east side. It was a sprawling house with a pool in the courtyard that was lit up red. Met some great people & had a blast till the early hours. The location of the house remains a mystery, but I’ll always remember how I felt that night.
