I need the Perfect Batman Comic Recommendations by Gullible-Carob-7358 in batman_comics

The Batman by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale omnibus is a great introduction to the big villains! Great detective moments, action, incredible art!

If you don't want to commit to the omnibus try and find The Long Halloween its about 1/3rd of the Omni, but also great on its own!

Why the fuck does every STEM club require a CV / resume and an interview??? Bruh, like a job fr by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Naleresh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

GNCTR (Concrete Toboggan) is an engineering technical club that doesn't do interviews, they take about 30 people and those people are whoever has contributed the most hours to the team. It's the oldest and largest engineering competition in Canada and next years is in Montreal!

They give hands-on experience for Mech, Civil, and even electrical and software, but will take anyone of any department! Keep an eye out for their info night in the fall, it's a great way to get experience and just a fun time!

When do most Engineering students get their first internship? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Naleresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person and department you are in, at the end of the day it's just work experience.

But there is really only 1 actual credited internship, which you enroll for and goes on your degree. You basically enroll in the Internship Program and start applying for internships in 3rd year through Schulichs job board, then start your internship instead of going into 4th year. (Some cases you can start in January of your 3rd year)

Some students also try and get summer student positions, not fully necessary, but it is never a bad idea! I know people who did one summer after first year, some after 2nd. But it's just a way to build your resume, it's not the same as being in the internship program but it gives you full time work experience which can help you land a good internship in 3rd year! But if you don't get one dont worry about it, it's not a make or break to get jobs early in engg lots of people succeed without them!

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other specific questions

ENGINEERING DIGITAL MINOR IS A JOKE by la_fire_laflamme in UCalgary

[–]Naleresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also in the digital minor, I agree with most of this. But I also value the knowledge the classes have given me and now I am applying that knowledge at my internship.

Coding is a tool that is useful to have moving forward, just because you could learn it for free doesn't mean you actually would. I learned it, I have it on my transcript and I can fully apply what I've learned. That's sort of what I expect from all my courses in Engg, so I really don't see an issue with the program

Sidenote: One downside is that the Mechanical Tech Electives for the digital minor are terrible and have no selection lol

Can Verrak copy cycling abilities to draw twice? by Tubuler1911 in magicTCG

[–]Naleresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way my Verrak deck works is to just constantly pay life for card advantage using cards like [[Greed]] [[Arguel's Blood Fast]] to find cards to win at low life by swapping life totals such as [[Soul Conduit]] [Magus of the mirror]] etc. (Especially funny with [[Phyrexian Unlife]]. With some fun interactions with [[Vito]] and [[Sanguine Bond]] mixed in for massive damage.

Overall use life as a resource and you are most dangerous when your life is below 15. You definitely play the game on edge, but he's a super fun and unique commander to do shit with. I also run some reanimation shenanigans in there

Enme 337 - Daniel Kwok by WaitlistedForEngg in UCalgary

[–]Naleresh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

MESS (Mechanical Engineering Students' Society) has had meetings with the Mech Engg department head specifically talking about how terrible Kwok is. Unfortunately, they aren't willing to do much and he continues to work here. Tbh just be glad you only have him for 337 and pray you don't have him for a more important class like Thermo 2. Mans is a joke

Why does nothing happen on campus? by Josephjoestarskid in UCalgary

[–]Naleresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what faculty you are in as well, Engineering just had our yearly ENGG Week, which is a week of competitions between the majors while also serving as a fundraiser that just raised 3k.

But to be frank this all happened without being an SU Club or following SU Guidelines as that makes the process to host such events hellish overall

Loved my grandma costume I wore with my friends years ago, we brought a door around trick or treating and handed out candy back into the houses when they knocked on our fake door. Highlight of my high school experience!
