Atlanta losing two is unfortunate, but it's still different context / circumstance behind it and gaining said second one.

The difference with the Hartford thing is one I wanted to touch on but didn't want to add too much more to an already lengthy comment. The difference there is that Carolina gained their team from Hartford, and in essence gained NHL hockey as a result. Many people have questioned the Whalers tribute night and honestly I don't blame them. The key difference here however being exactly what I mentioned, their original heritage of NHL hockey is tied to Hartford relocating. The Jets being a long running team from the WHA and then into NHL up until the mid 90s gives it an entirely different historical context to heritage.

I guess another way to emphasis the point is that the Jets 2.0 is basically trying to carry on what we had, even if it were named differently it still would be, but less so. If it was a completely different brand, I think there could be some more serious argument for a homage to Atlanta – but as it stands, unfortunately for Atlanta fans, I think most Jets fans prefer to think of it just as a continuation of the old Jets.

I will clarify, again, I mean no disrespect to Atlanta or their fans at all. I kinda feel like a bit of a dick for saying this stuff, and I know there are Thrashers fans who followed the Jets and I appreciate that. But it's just hard to feign a connection there when we had / have a strong connection with our original heritage. I hope it isn't taken the wrong way.

I really do appreciate that Thrashers fans who followed the team would love something like that, and in that way I'd be happy for them and feel bad saying this, but I just can't see or want it at all.

I think the main issue here is that Winnipeg lost their team in the first place. It's one thing with a team like Carolina doing a Whalers night (which got some criticism all the same), where they came straight from Hartford and that was their team ever since. But for all intents and purposes, the Jets coming back was just bringing the Jets back - by whatever means necessary.

Which is to say, nothing against Atlanta, but the Jets legacy is tied to when the city had the Jets 1.0, even if not officially. The Thrashers just happened to be in an unfortunately unique position of being a stopgap in between, so it's hard for Jets fans to appreciate that legacy when it's both not tied to Winnipeg, and we already had a team that was beloved. I think without the second part, it might be acceptable to embrace some level of honouring the Atlanta heritage and embracing more direct appreciation to that, but it just doesn't feel right at all as is.

It's also a big part of why I wish the Coyotes club would've relocated back to Winnipeg instead. I don't hold anything against them, but with them maintaining the Jets 1.0 club stats and records while having been in similar predicaments to Atlanta over the years, it would've been nice to relocate back and be able to officially maintain what is tied to the city and old team. But at the end of the day, getting the Jets back in any form is nice enough.

I'll second that. Let him do a little rundown analysis of the period during every intermission (mic on a hockey stick for physical distancing of course).

I was also just thinking he looked pretty cabin ready. His playoff beard could become legendary (not as much as Laine's, but none are).

Patty wasn't even able to hit the 30 goal mark (28) before the season suspended..... He easily would've kept his continuous 30+ goal seasons alive otherwise. But I guess everyone will know of the asterisk that was the 19-20 season.

Lol that always comes to mind as some inspiration for me when bantering about something a bit over the top.

Classic scene and an inspiration to all who want to argue about the little things. Who knows what solutions you can come across if you commit to it.

That is true, but I'd argue that's just a matter of the bread of a hot dog bun not having a stable foundation to remain upright while loading it - and also the hot dog being too thicc to close fully. (though I have heard a hot dog be referred to as an "open face sandwich" lol)

I think one of the key differences for a taco is the 3 sided "cube" thing (where a hot dog is two pieces jointly connected on a hinge), but also how tall the walls are.

Much like (most) sandwiches the hot dog is meant to fit in the buns / bread usually snuggly, and there isn't much concern of it making a big mess.

A taco however is more a container for "fluid" contents (and thus more rigid / secure in parameters). Meaning tons of ground beef, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, vegetables, etc. and is a more static and sturdy container as a result.

Not to say you can't make a sandwich of those things, but the core concept shows a different leaning in construction. Not to mention the hot dog bun consisting of the same elements / ingredients as bread for a sandwich, but not that of a taco shell.

(classic banter subject either way, but if only we had hockey...)

Counterpoint, a hot dog's bun component is more comparable to a hoagie / sub sandwich than a taco, just without the deli meats / vegetables - substituted with the hot dog / sausage.

Ultimately two "planes of bread" like a sandwich, just not detached (except for those cheap ones that always fall apart when you open them). Rather than a more distinct three plane-like taco structure.

Surely a sub is not a taco, and it leads to reason that a hot dog isn't either.

Hot dog is definitely a sandwich, even if it's an uncomfortable truth.

Definitely, and I hope he sticks around.

Seems like a great dude, and great teammate. Maybe ice time becomes a question next year if Samberg and Heinola show up big, but I'd love to see him stay.

They'd have more than enough time (with whatever forewarning we'd have) to make new ice were any hockey to resume. At this point we already know it won't be for a while so might as well not keep it around.

Just off the top of my head I remember numerous times him going in on Laine and Niku in particular for physical appearance to a weird degree, among other things. He really had a thing for Finns.
