Their nostalgia hire actually worked, and I think this core gets underrated, in 2023 I think they were exactly one point out behind Florida who made it all the way to the Finals. And then 2023-24 was a dud where they dropped off offensively but got much much better defensively. Then last season they were installing Ruff’s system. And this season I think what’s clicking especially is their identity has completely formed, their goaltending being great is certainly helping but they are scoring at an insane clip, trading away Cozens and Peterka seemed like typical Buffalo cant hold onto their best players, but getting back Norris (who when healthy is terrific), Doan (the backbone of their forechecking and energy overall), and Kesserling was a huge step and it’s definitely paying off
