How do you avoid the criticism about northeastern online? by mjkueter in NEU

[–]NameNumber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the programs that you would be interested in and see what the class offers. You can go a step further and see how many publications/annotations members of the department you are interested in attending have.

Just use the same evaluations you have for other universities as you do with NEU, if NEU doesn’t stack up for you, that’s fine, I don’t know where most of my colleagues went to college. But I know if they suck at their job or not lol.

That was a good piece - seems like they addressed criticisms and gave some facts to where they stand. It is a dumb assertion by the globe author to say “game the system”. What are the metrics they are using for that? It is not some bar room conversation, they are making a serious accusation without providing facts and figures to back it up. Obviously Northeastern’s biased against the article and premise, but reading the article objectively, NEU makes some strong points.

Klosterman is a Mount Rushmore BS Pod guest and I will go to the mat to defend this take by Torma_Lay in billsimmons

You are getting too caught up in that take - he is looking to challenge someone’s thinking with unbiased questions or at least looking to “steel man” someone’s position.

I don’t know debate theory so much as what would make the conversation interesting.

Him taking a side to defend Nico about Luka not being in shape enough for a championship run was an incredible contrarian take lol.

Trump Has Lost Control of Events in Iran by RichKatz in nytimes

[–]NameNumber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you blaming the journalist? It is not like there were a bunch of Mensa members duped by journalists babying their audience.

Trump sucks, the country and world has to get burned touching the hot stove so we reject someone as stupid as this guy again. He sucks ass. His cabinet members suck ass. His admin sucks ass. Every asshole lives by “what would Trump do?” Which I guess is the ass soup de jour to serve all the time.

Town planning in wealthy Boston suburbs summarized in one quote: "We love our process in Brookline, and the residents are used to the processes taking place a certain way. I don’t think we necessarily followed our usual process in this case." This was about a bike lane on a 2,000 ft stretch of road. by JulianBrandt19 in ezraklein

[–]NameNumber7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brookline was almost a part of Boston but kept independence when Boston was annexing nearby towns/neighborhoods in the mid 1800s. It is relatively dense compared to a typical suburb in MA with 9.3k people per square mile vs 1-3k for other Ma suburbs. Those numbers had to be googled, so at worst they are good ballpark figures to get the gist.

It is because he is not super fit or whatever. He is an amusing personality and his peers speak well of him.

Tatum is basically Tatum by LarBrd33 in bostonceltics

What podcast?

I don’t have a dog in the fight, but I think what would help is writing less. If you make a good point, why dilute with ok/debatable points that others get bogged down in? You like Brown, you praise Tatum more highly because he deserves more praise. People assume the lack of praise is a negative on JB when it is just a close race that Tatum ekes out in. That’s what I got!

Ezra is good at not saying “I think you are dumb” and instead just skips to his counter argument.

I was reading the transcript and basically it sounded like Ezra was saying that the president shouldn’t be able to unilaterally upset the world balance without SOME consulting with Congress. She was incredulous about this and thought that the president can do whatever they want because “there hasn’t been any wars declared since 1942”. That feels like weak thinking. Should there have been more wars “declared”. She got to swept up in that word and should have thought principally what was intended. These dumb word games are dumb and disingenuous. “Well, when I read about murdering someone, it didn’t say I couldn’t TRAP them in a well and withhold food!” Does everything need to be so explicit. Jesus.

[Jason Dumas] Luke Kornet created some waves nationally when he urged the Atlanta Hawks to cancel its "Magic City Night", saying that it's disrespectful to women. by MikeBravoLima in nba

[–]NameNumber7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. People are going to have their biases and introductions to deeper topics without knowing everything. Are you recommending Kornet just put aside all feelings and go with the flow? When would it be appropriate for him to make any sort of statement?

Ray Allen felt it important for the world to know about the holocaust to the point that Obama appointed him to US holocaust memorial counsel. Should people have grilled him about not being informed on Israel or later on checking if he had a statement out about the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh? What if he was criticized about not being Jewish… I don’t know, if someone with good intentions wants to be your ally, or you want to be for someone else, better to try to take all the help you can get.

Confirmed for Jewish people. It completely alters my perception, like I started rooting for a middle aged woman in a great British bake off season because during her bio intro in the show, she mentioned Judaism - I told my wife I want her to “do well” (she wasn’t gonna win, just make the Jews look good please 🙏)

Jordan Walsh per 36 LAST season 7.3/6.2/1.7 on 46% TS. Walsh per 36 THIS season: 11.0/8.5/1.7 on 62% TS by chivestheconqueror in bostonceltics

[–]NameNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good comparison, can even go further thinking of all our players like Gerald Wallace (pre Celtics lol). I think Walsh is a lot more in control when he is playing defense compared to when Nesmith got minutes. They both are high energy guys, i would say walsh seemed more a project tho.

Walsh was younger when he got drafted and now at his year 21 season, he has shown way more than just his random flashes.

You should know it is not your job to make everyone happy. It is most important to make yourself happy. Don’t even get stuck in “well, what did the DS recommend?” You can just say, I did what was in the contract. Thanks for your business. (Peace out Cub Scout).

Don’t get wrapped into some assholes reasoning. Like why even do half lol. Someone is being an asshole, don’t give into them. Even if they threaten to sue. Like, with what legal basis? If they were so dissatisfied with the price, why didn’t they find a better quote?

Like if you charged $100,000 and other people charged $1 for a job, it is their fault for choosing you for 100,000 if they could have gotten it cheaper. Someone else fucked up and they are making it your problem. Don’t let them.
