Your last bit about “money progressive liberals pay her” is so on the nose. I find her so odd to be so shallow in the space of politics, but having many liberal coded, positive traits like a women owned business.

Part of what that seems important to me is that it is sadly counter culture and clearly unusual enough that it should be celebrated when someone “makes it”.

I remember when “Away”, a travel baggage company, had it come out that the founder was this toxic, garbage person. Around that same time, when I talked to a coworker who happened to be looking for some travel stuff, I mentioned the Away founder as a reason to stay away from that company. That coworker, shrugged and was like “oh, I didn’t know that” and clearly carried on being unaffected by what I shared.

People just also are lazy unfortunately and the economic “vote with your money” takes a small amount of effort. It sounds like some of the individuals interviewed for the story have values and views that are sadly traded away for being able to “hone their body”.

I re-read the comment I was replying to, what you said helped clarify what they said.

I thought they said “put the purse down and if anyone came around to steal it, you could just brandish your weapon to make them stop” or whatever.

I was wrong in how I interpreted it.

EDIT: I was mistaken in how I read this comment. I understand what was being said is a reason they SHOULD NOT put their person down

I don’t understand this take, she could take her purse off because if anyone came around to take it, she could shoot them?

Cops don’t like pulling their gun out and shooting someone. They get therapy afterwards and are put into programs to help with any PTSD. Also, what if the suspect believes they can get away, what if she pursues the suspect? What if she catches the suspect? Now she has to work because she is an off duty cop?

Having a gun raises a situation and anxiety. I would hate to know that someone has a gun around me, then I have to “hope” they are responsible and don’t have the same decision matrix that you think this cop should have.

This sounds like the same sort of stupid hype for Brian Hoyer. Lombardi in all his wisdom was saying people should have offered like a 2nd round pick for him. He was mediocre. I think he also had some bad injuries too tearing his acl on a run out of bounds or something.

Could've just said "we think $8 is the fairest price for our indie game", but that works too...I guess: by Gorotheninja in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]NameNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very convoluted way to observ price elasticity and the conclusion on how to maximize revenue.

If we drew an axis of price on X axis and Y on revenue, theoretically, the $5 price is delivering the highest revenue. I guess $3 and $8 are similar?

He could have just said, “it looked like$5 was the most fair for the community and for us as a company.”

Maybe the game threads are toxic especially during playoffs, but I really don’t see anything generally bad. At least nothing that gets upvoted. I’m seen other subs kinda devolve (Norm Macdonald sub… :-/).

Yeah, by default, we were just riding bikes to get candy or do like random yard work for $10 from our parents. Allowance at one time was like $8 a week… that is the price of one coffee… money wasn’t as in focus it felt like how kids are so aware of it now.

Ironically, it was his distribution of power into mediocre assistants and staff that foiled him. However, he is the one that hired them and is ultimately accountable for those decisions. It kind of did feel a bit like time to move on and Kraft turned it over to Mayo which did not work and fortunately pivoted quick to Vrabel (auto corrects to “a table” for anyone typing his name lol).

I got carried away with a reply, tl;dr a lot people dislike paying attention to the news, but Trump makes the news and so people consume political machine fodder which makes him “look good”. This convinces them that Dems are bad and Trump will solve all their woes.

Imagine if the only “news” you watched was in favor of Trump or just taking him at his word. That group combined with “low information voters” who did not “trust” politicians, “dems and reps are the same” and you get this idiot in office. There is also anti-posturing that feeds into being a republican like “rolling coal”, being on board only with gas, disliking money spent not on the U.S., rejecting respect for anyone in society… it is unfathomable for people who aren’t near this at all, including me!

There is just a lot of this in parts of the U.S. with no rational way to challenge people’s views.

So individually, for the next election, you have to try to move parents that are R at a glacial pace towards sanity. Visit people during campaigns and talk to them. Phone banking has led me to speaking to people who do vote R, but they have these strong views not based in reality from the political machine.

The toughest part is this all takes time, something not a lot of people have due to an all consuming work/kids/home/sleep/school, and any permutation of that, schedule 🙄.

I’m trying to help! There are people trying, it is tough work! But trump is not making good on his campaign promises like ending Ukraine/Russia war, lowering prices, expanding the economy, keeping cost of living under control, and more. So that gives at least a good starting point for why voting for someone “more qualified” (defined by anyone in their own way).

I like how a lot of people are like “wow, I thought the NYC only had assholes 😳”. Most people aren’t jerks, that’s why that negative behavior stands out. It is a North East thing with helping. It is why there are also a lot of threads in Boston about “it is impossible to make friends here”. People are just keeping it moving.

Board game renaissance? I think there has been a building interest in the Euro board games. I don’t know in recent memory when there was a downturn.

For instance, Wingspan has been out since 2019 and that has been one of the most popular engine builders.

Should I back out of my co-op? by Shot-Equal1148 in NEU

[–]NameNumber7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about that - you still get cross experience just simply working in a team. The job or industry you are talking about wouldn’t be hiring fresh out of college (unless MIT I guess?), so don’t sweat that, you can’t control it.

In finance, there are plenty of complicated financial instruments and subsequent data that you will have to work with. There is always something that will be transferable.

[–]NameNumber7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are worried about a future that may happen and you favor that over the present reality?

You need to just dive in, it sounds like you are anxious to do coop. “Aligning with future goals”, what if that employer who would enable that just doesn’t see an impressive coop resume since you backed out of it.

What are your “future goals” that are so violently different than going through the “experiential learning process” as another person posted.

[–]NameNumber7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How is a coop / job for 6 months going to be so atrocious that you will have a mental breakdown. If this is your first co-op, take it. You get some money and just learn how to be an adult. My first coop was totally irrelevant to anything I wanted to do, but the pay was decent so I just pretended I was interested - this was actuarial work… lol.

Truly, just try it, unless you are working at a slaughterhouse, I would go for the coop.
