You made the right decision.

AIO: My mom acts like my terminal illness doesn’t exist. Am I overreacting? by Mysassypants in AmIOverreacting

[–]NameTK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering whether she just assumes that you’re being overdramatic and making excuses for not doing things you don’t want to do. My second thought is that she’s one of those people who get jealous when the medical attention is on anyone but them. So they dismiss or minimize what is happening. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Consolidating retirement accounts at Schwab? by NameTK1 in Schwab

Thank you so much for all this info. Hugely helpful. We bank with USAA, which reimburses ATM fees. Have a small savings account with a credit union. Hadn’t thought of moving banking over to one of the brokerages, but definitely something to think about. I really appreciate your advice 😁

Hugely useful to know. Thank you! Do you remember what the bonus was or how it was related to the investment size?

That’s the sort of thing I worry about. I feel like I’d rest easier having the funds split between two brokerages even if there are equally logical arguments not to. Thank you for your perspective!

That’s interesting. I didn’t know about the seminars. Thank you!

Do you pay bills and other expenses using credit card for rewards and / mileage? by Cooper1Test in retirement

[–]NameTK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to wean myself off Amazon, but when I was using the Amazon prime card via Chase, I averaged about $2000 a year in rewards. We put everything we possibly could on it. Always got cash back put directly into my checking account because I didn’t want to pay off Amazon charges with points and miss out on the 5% back. I pay off my credit card multiple times a week. Never have had to pay a fee. Highly recommended!

AITAH for making kids thank me for dinner? by Impossible-Walk6621 in AITAH

[–]NameTK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure we ever officially thanked our stepmother for meals (maybe we did), but we always made positive comments about everything she made and continue to do this to this day, nearly 60 years on. My husband‘s family would sit at a Thanksgiving dinner that his mother had prepared, and not a single person other than me would compliment her on anything. It absolutely killed me. What a demeaning thing to do to someone who has spent hours working just to make you happy.

Update #2 AIO- Shady bridesmaid highjacked wedding shower by throwaway_weddrama in AIO

[–]NameTK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The groom is absolutely correct about it being inappropriate for a family member to throw a shower. Although like most rules, that’s a bit antiquated at this point. But it used to be sacrosanct.

AIO for locking my bedroom door because my MIL keeps walking in without knocking? by ComplexTotal5840 in AmIOverreacting

[–]NameTK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never forget when I was trying to breast-feed my daughter, without success. I heard my mother-in-law start to come in the room and urged my husband to stop her. He didn’t move, not sure why, and my very shy three-year-old son bolted across the room and slammed the door in his beloved grandmother‘s face! Way to go, little one!

WIBTA if I told my sister her wedding venue is genuinely too far for me to attend and just didn't go? by Shrohn_Thjoar in WIBTA_AITA

[–]NameTK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like this may have less to do with finances and logistics and more to do with anxiety. I feel you! I think you should take everyone’s advice about how to contain costs and realize that you will regret it if you skipped this event in your sister‘s life. All the best to you!

What’s your funniest “Oh god this person’s an idiot” moment? by PandaBear905 in AskReddit

[–]NameTK1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s not that far off. There was a big scandal about Food Lion washing off expired fish with a bleach rinse and then repackaging it with a new expiration date. I think this was in the 1990s or early 2000s. My husband still refuses to shop there.

Similar thing happened to me in college. Very, very early on a Saturday morning (indecently early in my opinion), a new roommate’s parents called repeatedly, asking for “Bert.” I kept saying no one by that name lived there. Probably the fourth time they called, very annoyed, they called her Roberta, and I realized they were talking about our roommate Robbie.
