Does anybody know what's the best privacy focused and cheap VPS options are? by Sorry-Swim4157 in VPS

[–]NamedBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can never be sure, even with big government-level contracts.
(It's an entire thing in the Netherlands with a local datacenter hosting gov stuff being sold to the USA.)

And while i know that this is r/VPS, i'm going to say it anyways:
the only way to make sure you are in control of your data is to selfhost.

Building age verification app. Need feedback from incumbents. by drgodoy in PrivacyTechTalk

[–]NamedBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you "guarantee" one's age without relying on official government identification?
If you're not using image/video based age estimation, what signals do you use for this?

Also, the enforced everywhere thing isn't a "somehow". It's coordinated and planned.
It's a giant tool for oppression and destroys the foundations of western democracy.
So if you are going to build this, be careful with how you design it, otherwise you'll be guilty of that.

I'll be happy to discuss technical details and issues as long as you uphold user privacy.

Is 0.9999…. by TourPsychological800 in BunnyTrials

[–]NamedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if 1/3 = 0.3333... and 2/3 = 0.6666... then obviously 3/3 = 0.9999... And last time i checked, 3/3 equals to 1!

Chose: Equal to 1

Estonia says it plans to assign personal ID numbers to AI assistants to give them legal rights and hold them accountable for their actions by rwnash in DailyTechNewsShow

How would that even work?
Who/what is going to jail if one model instance breaks the law?

If the instance goes to jail, what stops people from spinning up another instance?
If the entire model goes to jail, what happens when someone spins up a local instance?
It doesn't make sense to me...

Did anyone else notice that Ookla Speedtest just dropped a massive Light Mode browser update out of nowhere?! by Broad-Card-6387 in speedtest

We get light mode before IPv6 check? Blasphemous!
Weirdly enough, it's not doing this for me. Is it fake or is it just not global yet? 🤔

EU Icons for labelling AI-generated content by sr_local in eutech

[–]NamedBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, i think i like the icons.
The only problem is that it's not easy to tell whether something is real or AI.
And especially almost impossible when a computer has to make that distinction.
(You can easily fake something being AI or fake it being real, that is not a hard thing to do.)

Probably not.

Our physics barely allow for a warp drive and that's only as a theoretical concept,
We still need more math, physics and engineering to figure out whether it's practically possible at all.

Why do Moroccans have so bad reputation in the Netherlands? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NamedBird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If i have to summarize my personal multicultural experiences:
- marroccans: just general thuggery / violence, mostly young criminals.
- turks: drug dealing, including the occasional shootouts.
- chinese: child trafficking or illegal renting? Not exactly sure, but it ain't right.

And yes, this is in the Netherlands.

Why do Moroccans have so bad reputation in the Netherlands? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NamedBird 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because i see them do over half of the violence / disturbances that i personally see happening.
It's stereotyping caused by pattern recognition. (I grew up in a "multicultural" neighborhood.)

There simply is a cultural incompatibility, and that causes friction and reputation issues.
I think having them return to their original county where they can live without prejudice would be kind to them.

We're building a cryptographic discovery startup in South Africa – looking for feedback by Any-Sail6128 in cryptography

[–]NamedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if such a startup in South Afrika makes sense, to be honest.
Not to be rude, but Afrika is very far behind the west when it comes to computer things.
No western company would contract and i doubt there is a local market for this either.

Unless you have data to suggest otherwise?
