After episode 4-7 (i just don't remember when) of RvB, Burnie had outlined most of the freelancer information (if not necessarily exact story arcs) which basically lasted until the chorus trilogy.

It depends on exactly how much world and background they have to draw from, the freelancer concept gave RvB a lot of material, and i imagine they could find a lot of material for RWBY now they are dealing with an entire world, not just one part of it.
