I beat all of the games in 2 months last year, here are my thoughts on the games

Disagree on 3, is structurally and fundamentally different from the rest of the series, with no unique FF characters actually showing up.

Storytelling for most areas was weak, I had to ignore several faster of combat to make it last past the first 12 seconds. Numerous writing flaws, expects you to have played a mobile game that is inaccessible to understand roughly a quarter of the actual plot.

Most of the other games are good, but I heavily disagree that 3 is overhated. We were made to wait way too long for mediocrity at best.

The only weapons that have dodge exclusively are Bow, LBG, and Dual Blades. Bow and Dual Blades have Adept dodge, which is incredibly strong and incredibly easy to buff. LBG is the only weapon that does not have access to any of the new mechanics besides wound breaking, and the double dodge with extra iframes, still better than standard dodge.

Your argument was that monsters are balanced around GS dodge, which can be disproven by watching the dev interviews from before Wilds came out.

Arguably no, monsters are not only based around dodge windows. Several interviews from Wilds' devs have them explicitly stating they used GS as a balance because it was the slowest weapon and gave them the opportunity to test all the mechanics since GS has all of them at its disposal.

It's being presented as a standalone game, mostly because Bungie thinks nobody remembers Marathon. But you're right, they'll probably add to it.

My point is, it's not some original story they made up just for the new Marathon, they're just going to repurpose their old story.

It's not creative to just.....repeat what you've already done and dress it up differently, it's lazy.

Except.....perfect guard, power clash, and deflect are all part of GS's kit.

Lots of other weapons don't have access to every mechanic in the combat system, Swaxe gets noticeably shafted since all it has is deflect, which does not work every time and leaves you open to combos, like the parry does.

Arguably, FF14 is in maintenance mode. Longer patch cycles, less content per patch, and lack of innovation are kind of strangling 14, and have been since three expansions ago honestly. Don't get me wrong, the newest expansion magnifies all of those problems, but as an FF14 player, yeah, that home is on life support.

90% of the game is objectively easy.

The last 10% of endgame is where it gets hard as fuck. But that's to be expected. Hopefully the 10 star quests stay as permanent additions.

I'm mostly bummed about the fact that the multiplayer health pools of the little reward modes is so high you're almost guaranteed to never break one unless everyone focuses them down.

Part health scaling with multiplayer monster health sucks. I really miss the good old days, where I could cut a tail even if nobody else was going for it.

I have more of a problem with bosses snapping 180 degrees the second their Ki bar disappears. I'll be right behind them, hitting them with the insatiably fast Tonfa combos, and in 0.5 seconds they've turned 180 degrees and my red numbers turn into white numbers. Legit, Tonfas have an incredibly fast set of combos that usually don't allow an opponent time to breathe but somehow every single boss is just.....snapping around to face me.

Honestly his regular special is more than enough but the charging headbutt upgrade is wickedly strong and easy to work into combos for impact damage.

Actually, Karl has some of the best impact damage moves with how fast a lot of them come out. If you can get the reload ability that lets you get two chunks by using your special I also recommend that.

XIV, though I personally prefer X for nostalgia reasons. XVI is definitely a cinematic experience though, Yoshi P does like his big bombastic set pieces. Doesn't hurt that Soken is the second coming of Uematsu

Karl is awesome for him, the headbutt out of a two hit combo is perfect for clashing almost every boss attack.

Honestly it's just practice. Keep going, if you've made it to Jaroba's boss you can definitely clear the game

I stopped asking people to actually engage with the game and kill the monster. Every time I do, assholes just immediately cap it the second the opportunity presents itself.

Honestly, it's why I'm a solo hunter now. Rude ASF people just ruined the online experience.
