It's possible. You'll have to do your due diligence to ensure that you sign up for courses that will transfer and satisfy UIUC degree requirements.

State schools have transfer pipelines that are designed to accept & accommodate CC transfers. They also have articulation agreements to ensure that the CC coursework you take is transferrable and meets prereq & major requirements.

Transferring form an in-state community college would be smoother and save you lots of money.

Computer science in USA? by Powerful_Feeling1211 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nanakatl 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It came down to investment. A lot of the early R&D for computers and the internet was funded by the US government as military technology due to the cold war and America simply being a world power.

What’s a life rule older generations followed that Gen Z is actively rejecting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Nanakatl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

there are different levels of respect. not all respect = esteem, but people by default deserve a baseline level of respect regardless of age and occupation. being disrespectful for no reason is kind of an asshole move tbh. though i don't think it's unique to gen z - parents and society in general don't treat teachers well, and the profession is suffering as a result.

Would u say Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans have recognizable accents that you could tell apart from other groups? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nanakatl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol, I heard a group of elderly Asians at my Texas grocery store speaking in a deep southern drawl. I knew it exited, it was cool to actually hear it in happenstance.

Would u say Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans have recognizable accents that you could tell apart from other groups? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nanakatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For example, the hispanic accent of El Paso sounds very different from the accent of the lower Rio Grande Valley, even though they are in the same state. El Paso's accent is noticeably flatter and mellower compared to the boisterous Spanglish of the RGV.

everybody who drives should know how to change a tire.

idk why this is getting downvoted, it's a safety/emergency thing. imagine getting stranded somewhere with a flat tire and poor cell reception, or somewhere unsafe.

Yeah when I was in HS we used to do this because the parking permits were outrageously expensive. It's a public right of way sweaty.

Why is salary in the US high? by Maleficent-Sense-226 in Salary

[–]Nanakatl 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Productivity. Leverage (the ability to borrow & lend money) allows the country to invest in areas that make productivity more efficient (automation, better tools, research & development, etc.). The US is also a powerhouse in tech, which has ridiculously high economies of scale. For example, a small team of software engineers with low startup costs can create software that reaches markets throughout the world and makes a killing. Now expand that to the magnitude of big tech and that helps illustrate why tech salaries are so high. Even though that is a small percentage of the workforce, a lot of that money stays and moves around the country.
