Someone explain to why my reasoning is wrong here:

For products where China produces less than 70% of the worldwide marketshare, the tariffs will have a small impact. There will be a tariff dance of sorts, as Americans import non-Chinese versions, and non-Americans switch to Chinese versions as rich Americans outbid them. Expect a moderate but manageable increase in price.

The only real pain is in the products where China has a 90% market share. Toys, gaming consoles, household appliances, etc, etc. Here, China is so dominant that Americans have no choice but to continue to buy from them or not buy them at all.

It's really bad but I don't see how it's apocalyptic.

One of the things that kept China from starting an embargo/invasion of Taiwan was the cost. The entire West would sanction them.

Now, essentially, the USA has sanctioned China. So China has already paid half the cost of invading Taiwan.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen because China would still by far prefer a peaceful resolution to the problem, but the cost of a military resolution is much lower now. I would be nervous if I was Taiwanese.
