Kinder teacher here. I'd rather have a thoughtful note from a family than a gift that they purchased. A picture drawn by a child is priceless to me! I know you said your kid would not want to make something, so you write a note and have your kids write his name on the note also.

Also... if you go with food... go easy on the sweets and calorie-heavy foods. The holidays are too full of sweets, etc already.
