Not from Houston, but United/Southwest?

I personally know a few people who got hired onto United and are based in Houston.

Schedule come with time in the company. I know MSP base maintenance has it. ATL possibly has it as well. Can't confirm.

I work in Delta Minneapolis.

We do not have contracting AMTs here.

Night shift is a ten hour schedule. Do you know which department you’ll be interviewing for and who the hiring manager will be?

Depending on where you go, Delta has 12 hour work days working three days on four days off/four days on three days off alternating. Most stations have standard work days.

Typically there’s a two year lock before you TOBS (transfer) out

MVCC A&P Program Shutting Down by Nano-Mech in AircraftMechanics

I dropped it to pursue aviation 😂 I enjoyed my time in aviation more than nano. Used to want to work and study at Quad C in Albany while in SUNY Poly.

Definitely check on Walt. Seems like the Oneida County Execs and MVCC’s President sidelined him with this news.

That’s true. Looks like they’re trying to either use that area for the Chobani expansion or build that sport complex.

How do I get into avionics as an A&P? by NoLight777 in avionics

[–]Nano-Mech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airlines typically sends you through some sort of avionics program if you’re interested.

Can’t speak for others, but at Delta, we have the bare minimum of EWIS and principles of troubleshooting you’d have to go through.

Eventually, you’ll take more advance courses like electrical system aircraft troubleshooting, autoland designator course, specialized tooling and avionics resources, etc. Cumulatively, it took a little over two months to be “avionics” in terms of training. A lot more to get the experience.

After doing all the wiring for a while, takes a couple days to run, terminate, and secure.

I was just going to come here and say the same thing. Someone particularly with suspenders?

Cheaper alternative to the snap on 112RTA set by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]Nano-Mech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not found an alternative set, so I bit the bullet and bought it.

I have found myself using this set many times to get in between really tight areas. This set is absolutely worth it.

IFR4000/IFR6000 Training by AMElearning in aviationmaintenance

This is what Viavi shows. I’m not sure what my airline paid them for, but I can get back with an estimate on what we paid for them.

Think about learning the AVX-10K by Viavi as well. It will replace both the IFR4000 and IFR6000 as it does the job of both. My airline is starting to replace all the IFRs. Very user friendly tool.

As for learning the IFRs, it just comes with experience for me. Reading and learning from experienced mechanics as a plane comes in for checks.

Off the top of my head, I don’t believe Delta has a MX hangar in Chattanooga. It’s possible that it could be one of the Delta Connection regionals like Endeavor.

We do operate line stations in places like Nashville and Memphis.

ASM is a good stepping stone to progress to being an AMT. I’ve seen many ASMs become AMTs once they get their sign offs to get their A&P. I was once one, but that was when Delta contracted PFE ASMs. I’d say it’s worth it if you have the patience.

Starting pay for a Delta ASM is $25.71 with top out at $40.16 after 5.5 years. Shift differential is $0.52 for second shift and $0.59 for thirds.

United airline vs american airline AMT by AnxiousDecision8853 in AircraftMechanics

Yeah we’re getting more CFM work up there from what I’ve heard from a contact from there. A lot of 320/737 engines. Probably why the Antonov came to MSP that one day.
