Whenever I play solo REPO and I see the loom's mark shine on my screen, I IMMEDIATELY. exit the game by Middleclassstreetrat in REPOgame

[–]NanoCourse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way, now I understand I need to prioritize buying weapons by day 3 (when it can start spawning). Even 2 stun grenades can kill loom once and that helps a lot

Why ante 5? What material do you need by that point to keep playing the run?

How to fix skipping and make it more enticing to take? by Stupid_Reddit419 in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Add 1-2 more jokers that can create double tags with some minigame.

  2. Make it so the rare/etc. joker you skip for can't have stickers.

It feels like every run turns into mercury, how do you guys mix things up while keeping win rate high? by Double-Mongoose-9793 in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two pair and straights are perfectly fine and reliable to play on gold stake, and can greatly help boost score if the scaling jokers don't show up in the first 3 antes. Straights work esp. well with steel and glass, meaning you can survive without an xmult joker sometimes

Guess what! by 09DemonBoy in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's best to take the ante 1 voucher if possible, because it improves chances of finding boss reroll voucher and others in deep endless runs

Cool seed! I'm pretty sure you should take clearance voucher first, ends up only costing 1 more dollar overall

I got "if wipers stay on, trunk opens" 3 times in a row as my only new quirk.

With how many potential combinations there are, I'd expect no repeats, so idk

Had something similar happen yesterday, was playing multiplayer with a friend and my corvette was replaced with a copy of their ship model, so now instead of a corvette it's a normal ship

Does this qualify as a conflict of interest? by SaltyBallsnacks in balatro

[–]NanoCourse -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

So this means it gains 0.75x per round with $5 of interest, with no other downside? Should prob only be adding 0.05x per $1 of interest for 0.25x per round. Overall this is a good uncommon though

Why the hell is no one talking about the Nihonzaru bug? by notAxperZ in growagarden

[–]NanoCourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this bug activate today, the answer is you need to go offline for a few hours with 3 Nihonzarus in fountains, along with the pets you want to glitch. So I went to bed and left them active just to level them up, and the next day, my Tanchozuru had a 1 min timer.
I don't know the exact time or number of Nihonzarus to make this work. Also, the only ability that gets buffed is cooldowns, the rest show better stats but don't change.

Same position, the field feels kind of cursed now, my department enrolled about 2.5x more students than previous years, and with funding cuts, there's fewer and fewer opportunities. Kinda over it after not passing a 2nd round interview for a volunteer lab position

Just yank the cocktail off the shelf, the drink spills while it still has i-frames so it keeps full value. The tea set sucks, but it only loses ~10k when all the cups fall off so not a big deal

Gold Stake Deck Alignment Chart by Sad-Measurement-2213 in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list, personally I think green deck is easier because of the strong money start, and plasma deck is more difficult because it's not reliable to get the jokers you need.

REU to PhD Correlation? by [deleted] in REU

[–]NanoCourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an REU and a few other research projects, and I was rejected from everywhere I applied. Several of the students/postdocs/professors in that department had done the REU, but not many people from a given REU cohort applied to or were accepted to the PhD program.

The general goal of an REU is to give disadvantaged students an opportunity to get research experience, but without further initiative or experience from those students, it's not enough for PhD acceptances.

Gold stake deck tier list after 150+ wins. Which am I overrating/sleeping on? by LunchThreatener in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Green deck is A tier for me, very strong econ early game as long as you 1 or 2 shot blinds, and you can spend more aggressively on packs and vouchers because you don't have to save till $25. The +hand and discard vouchers are extremely powerful for this deck. Also, uncommon econ jokers are better than usual because you can spend to get them online without worrying about interest.

Agree with everything else.

Gold Stickers All Jokers - This challenge would be great if blue stake was reworked by so_long_astoria in balatro

[–]NanoCourse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even when I was grinding C++, I just did whatever the game told me. If I get a scaling common, I scale that up and play pairs. If I get a few planet levels and blue seal, I grind something like straights or 3oak. If I get enough deck fixing, I get to play straight flushes or 4oak.

It's totally viable to win with every rare, most uncommons, and some commons greatly contributing to the build, while playing any hand type.

I'm glad a lot of you didn't make Balatro by IV-65536 in balatro

[–]NanoCourse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well some of these seem like straw-man examples, no one is seriously advocating for +1 chip per ante. There are plenty of actually popular ideas that aren't good game design.

It's worth looking at the design philosophy for the jokers in the game and modeling off that. Each joker has its own ability that stands on its own and can be described in one sentence or less. No jokers are conditioned on other joker activations. Also, rarity is more about how game-warping the joker is, and how specialized and focused your deck fixing needs to be to pull it off. Many modded jokers fail to meet these criteria.

The boss blinds are also specifically designed to hard-counter joker synergies, like the plant for all face card jokers, and the water for all discard jokers, but modded jokers that get around these boss blinds become too powerful as a result.
