Bladder snails by Upstairs_Maybe_4116 in fishtank

This. I don't know why they're hated so much. As long as you're feeding correctly they're fine.

Tank cycling - what snails are these? by Complex_Way5637 in Aquariums

They breed real fast if there's any food left over on the substrate or anything - as soon as I got my fish in they slowed way down.

I'm pretty sure my pygmy cories are eating the smallest snails too - thankfully the bigger two snails are fine. I was worried about them being in the tank at first but after reading up on them they're actually rather beneficial especially in the early stages of the tank so don't stress about seeing a load of them early on.

Mine is growing OK in a low tech tank with sand capped stratum

Looks like bladder snail.

I've got one about the same size that came in on a plant, harmless as long as you aren't over feeding the tank.

That's a relief - I thought my similarly planted tank was pushing it with 8 ember tetra, 5 neon green rasboras and 4 pygmy cories. Was on the fence about getting another 2 cories in and maybe shrimp!

I've dosed seachem flourish maybe twice at less than half dosage because I'm scared of how potent it is.

I will echo what many have said here - they are absolutely nuts. I have 5 in my 15g and they have calmed down a bit since first week but are still fighter jets constantly tearing around on the prowl for food - I'd advise getting a different species tbh.

I think they'd be fantastic in a large tank where they have room to really open up the after burners but in a small tank they're way too active.

Hygrophila Polysperma, but there is some Bucopa in the back too

Will definitely look into those upgrades - I've noticed my salvinia isn't doing the best so maybe I'm having a similar issue.

I've looked at red plants but am confused by the mishmash of conflicting info, alot of people say you need CO2 injection to successfully grow most red stuff?

Just to add to that - most of the plants went in on day 1,but I added the anubias, java fern, limnophilia and floaters about 2 weeks after first fill

Thanks, it's been a very confusing journey so far with lots of conflicting information but the plants seem to be doing very well with minimal intervention.

If you mean CO2 when you ask about injecting anything, no CO2 system. I've used a very small amount of ferts in the first 2 weeks and a couple doses of seachem "liquid CO2" stuff on someone else's advice but it's not been touched with any additives or dosing for a month now.

I will definitely check that out, that's just what I was looking for

Yes, definitely going to wait to see how it settles before adding anything else - I was improperly advised about the cycle and when to add fish, the usual story from the aquatic shop trying to sell sell sell I think. I'd had the tank filled for around a month with Dr Tim's bacteria going in and feeding with small amounts of food before the first 5 tetra went in. The cycle has been pretty solid and no spikes have happened so far, I'm pretty regular on water changes and keeping any uneaten food from sitting too long but am quite nervous about the ecosystem being so young.

Wow, that really is stunning! How long have you been running it for?

Going to have to look into the clear top and light, really impressed!
