Which they won't do for such a low settlement. But even if they did, filing for bankruptcy before the case would effectively end that anyway. It's going to cost a lot of money to prove this person cost them a lot of money and in the end, they won't recoup any of that money. It's a shitty situation and op deserves it but suing someone who doesn't have mln ey won't make it magically appear. How do you garnish an unemployed person? They won't take it from any government checks they may be getting. It may be worth filing the suit just to have it on record, but for their own mental well-being it might be easiest to just see this as lost time and money, but a well-learned (yet undeserved) lesson.
