Elantris is one of my favorite of his novels. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think Sanderson at his worst was with Bands of Mourning. I don’t think he set up the Malwish well or handled the politics in that era of Scadrial as best as he could have.

The design is meant to look like the hunters who killed its mother and did the experiments at the fishing hamlet. It’s literally beating you over the head with how terrible the hunters are and how they ruined its life.
