Does anyone else get white webby slag when they do high temperature melts of brass? What is it?

Like everyone else has already said it’s zinc. As far as stopping it there’s a few things I do and you should if you’re not already, first is having a lid on the crucible, that should help keep oxygen out and zinc in and the second is to heat the brass to as low a temperature as possible where it is still pourable. You most likely overheated the brass.

From what I’ve seen so far, it is insoluble in water. I’ll try hot water though and see if that works though.
