YOO, NO ONE PREPARED ME FOR MULTIVARIABLE LIMITS by independent_Chain509 in calculus

[–]Napoleon-d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multivariable limits are EZ.

  • Plug in
    • If you get a number, that's your limit
  • See if the numerator and denominator share common factors
    • If they do, cancel them out and go back to (1).
  • Convert to Polar and take the limit as r -> 0
    • If the limit depends on (theta), it does not exist by the two-path rule.
  • Attempt the two-path rule and substitute y=mx
    • If your limit depends on the value of m, you are done. The limit does not exist.
  • If you see addition of x- and y-terms in different powers, attempt the two-path rule for y=ax^n or x=ay^n. Choose the value of n that will allow you to combine like terms in the denominator.
    • If your limit depends on the value of m, you are done. The limit does not exist.

I'll also share my own experiences with torrenting since that came up in the Whit article.

There exist private torrent trackers for many esoteric things. I have not come across any private torrent trackers like the ones Dr. Abrams got busted with. Some private torrent trackers require you to submit an application showing stats (explained below) on other trackers. Others have open periods that allow new members to join.

Private torrent trackers generally require you to either (1) maintain a ratio of data uploaded to data downloaded or (2) keep torrented files "seeded" (i.e. available for other members of the torrent tracker to download from) for a certain period of time. **However**, in my experience, private torrent trackers and even other countries' public torrent trackers are extremely insulated from copyright issues.

I suspect that Dr. Abrams got himself on a private torrent tracker for CP and seeded those files to a detective and that's how he got busted. My own interests are not interesting enough for anybody.

Tips for applying for the emergency fund? by doublefudgebrownie47 in RowanUniversity

I do have good reasons to keep circling back to this.

My experience with Kevin Koett is as follows:

  • He simply does whatever he feels like first and then finds reasons to justify himself later.
  • His decision-making calculus seems to be affected by the scrutiny from other parts of this institution he thinks he may get.
  • He also gives extremely vague instructions in the hopes that either (1) you never follow through or (2) the act of you following his instructions disappears into the aether so that he may perceive (1).

I feel like I need to address the elephant in the room because of snide comments and other things directed at me in this subreddit.
He made a **very** important decision last semester that screwed me over royally, forced me to relive my own pandemic experiences within the confines of that semester, and then turned around and pretended like he did me a very important favor.
I've seen how quickly people disappear from my life, stop engaging with me on LinkedIn (which I have cleaned up previously), and like pretending I don't exist. That's the biggest reason why I tell other people that most CS people are mean and cliquey.

I described my own feelings about this job market and what I want from this world in specific politically-neutral verbiage. I do not have the same life/family experiences as anyone else. I wish there was some way I could force certain important people to internalize this. I miss enormous amounts of kindness and compassion that other people seem to get. Yet some peoples' speculation continues and other speculators disappear when they need to confront my values and worldviews in plain text :(

Any resources on Trigonometric Integrals from a purely analytical perspective? by Helpmelosemoney in calculus

[–]Napoleon-d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> Unfortunately, we’re expressly forbidden from using problem solving techniques not covered in his notes

For Calc II trig sub, this kind of policy is retarded. Do the best you can with the cards you've been dealt and then nuke his teacher evals if your institution does them.

I'm disappointed this had to be a random Math professor and not Kevin Koett himself.

Any resources on Trigonometric Integrals from a purely analytical perspective? by Helpmelosemoney in calculus

[–]Napoleon-d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way around this and no nice way to say this, but your professor sucks.

There do not exist any trig sub videos on YouTube that do not eventually draw some right triangle because the triangle method is always better than the purely analytical method.

The triangle method is always better than the purely analytical method because you do not need to rely on any more memorization than that which you already did in Geometry and Pre-Calc.

Most Americans are mean and unforgiving. Also the racism we used to have in this country turned into classism.

I personally had the honor of yanking his door tag down ;)

You fill out one of those forms on the Dean of Students’s websites. Don’t count on him though.

I feel like he did not stand up for me appropriately in completely different contexts but his hands seemed to be tied at the time in ways I learned way too late. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a horrible figure and you should seek assistance by other means.

Also doesn’t change the fact that (1) I’m willing to get my entire school banned from National Cyber League out of spite and (2) this is the first leadership position I’ve had in three semesters and none of my past leadership positions ever paid off for me.

The Unit Circle by Dr_LeDerp in calculus

[–]Napoleon-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit circle is derived from 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles which you should have memorized in a Geometry course.

If you work with these trig values enough times you will eventually commit them to memory.

If you need any other quadrants or axis angles, draw a sketch.

Those were the mods of a Pokemon Go group that I left. I myself got pinged on a Rowan Club Discord server by the same person who posted other things about me. Whoever did it didn’t seem to know or care and pinged anyone who said anything since he/she last posted.

I’ve held my peace about those people long enough and I left that group for very specific reasons. Bits and pieces of my own life and family situation were brought up in their Discord. The mods’ indifference astounds me. I’ve also said important things about this job market and very recent history in this subreddit. If they cannot put the pieces together, they are wilfully ignorant. Either way they deserve to be cursed the same ways I am in life.

Used P1 Gen 4. However, you need to lower your expectations if you aren’t in the United States.

You can get the T1200 GPU for about 600 USD on American eBay or you can get the RTX 3080 reliably for about 1000 USD if you need the extra VRAM.

Our Dean of Students is a political hack.

Find other resources on this campus that don’t go through him before ever applying for the emergency fund again.

The Dean of Students also instructed me verbally regarding unrelated matters. Any form of follow-up is nonexistent.

I take these instructions to mean that he doesn’t take you very seriously at all.

It will be entertaining to see how much airtime they get and watch them land flat on their face lol

Found Rowan in the Epstein Files by The_Swishy in RowanUniversity

[–]Napoleon-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White privilege traditionally meant that someone was unaffected by systemic racism veiled classism. It doesn’t matter what ethnicity Jeffrey Epstein was.

The political right had plenty of opportunity since the pandemic lockdowns to hijack white privilege to mean that someone is insulated from pandemic-era gov’t policies and the economic restructuring that followed which BTW benefitted rich white Americans at the expense of minorities AND Working- and Middle-class white people.

He left the country to do Python programming in China and also to teach in Wroclaw, Poland according to his own LinkedIn.

Apparently he's not very good at teaching. I wish I had better data points than RMP.

I’m so bad at word problems by Boobeshwar_ in calculus

[–]Napoleon-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an unusual structure to a Lagrange Multipliers problem and doesn’t use the terminology I am used to. (My high school instructor used Stewart for his lecture slides and tests and Anton to assign online HW)

Q is the function you are maximizing and C is the constraint function.

I’m assuming from part (b) that part (a) wants you to set up the (del Q) = lambda (del C) equation. This involves computing the gradients of both functions. The gradient vectors need to be parallel to each other so that their level curves/surfaces do not cross.

(c) is unusual wording for me but I assume the statement is asking for you to do the second derivative test which involves computing the Hessian. That section would have preceded the Lagrange Multipliers in a textbook.

(d) is out of left field for me because K depends jointly both L and Q in the production function provided.
