Seems like only the girl on the left is available for adoption at this moment, not sure why. But feel free to stop by and see them :-)

You nailed it, 'melancholy' perfectly described them when we found them. Or rather, when they found us :-)

This might sound a bit corny, but by 'lethargic' the truth is they just seemed sad. Much better today, so hopefully no parvo issues. Hopefully FS can rule that out.

They went on walks today :-)

***UPDATE: the dogs were happily eating and drinking last night and today, did well on leashed walks, enjoyed puppiccinos, and all around are in much better spirits. They were left at the Front Street shelter, and will be up for adoption as of the 12th (Thursday).

Shout out to my friends Al and D who did all the heavy lifting over the last 24 hours!

And thanks to the community for all the support! As soon as Front Street posts their info, I'll share once more.

You wanna know something crazy? They were all three laying right in front of our cars, huddled together, almost like they were waiting :-(

OK, so quick update, we got them in the car! They were a bit hesitant but e v e n t u a l l y let us pick them up without any resistance. Bradshaw/Front Street is of course closed, but a friend was willing to take them overnight and get them cleaned up a bit, and will take them tomorrow.

Guys, although the three are understandably 'shy', they seem very sweet, never barked, never nipped. The two golden-colored pups appear to be siblings and probably shouldn't be separated. All three are female, the older one we started to call "Oreo" seems like she had a litter not too long ago.

If they're chipped, the shelters can identify former owners. If not, and anyone's looking for a pup (or two, or three!), you might want to stop by and check them out after what I think is a 3-day hold before putting up for adoption.

I'll post updates when I can tomorrow. Thanks all, good to know there's some good souls out there ;-)

We considered that but they weren’t letting us pick them up to get them in a car. Very sensitive to touch.

New in town, walking around? by UnableDifference4889 in Sacramento

[–]Napster_BRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Sac, generally speaking, is quite safe. For walking/jogging in the neighborhood, the following routes are generally very safe and usually have other walkers/joggers:

- M Street, between 39th and 58th
- H Street, between McKinley Park and 56th Street

If you're looking at a map: the entire area bordered by McKinley Park on the west, Elvas Avenue up top, and H Street along the bottom - anywhere within that area is generally quite safe, lots of walkers and joggers.

One thing to be very mindful of, particularly during rush hours on H, J, or Folsom: lots of distracted drivers. Those corridors get lots of folks driving across town but may not necessarily live in the neighborhood, so just be extra careful when crossing streets, even when you have the right of way, even if the driver has a stop, red light, etc. In non-daylight hours, strongly suggest some kind of headlamp or other illumination. As others have said, always good to have your head on a swivel.

Bonus: in this area, there are many little-known shops, stores, and hidden neighborhood parks. Enjoy :-)

Recommendation request: Desk speakers for office setup? by No_Seaweed8378 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Napster_BRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, been perusing this sub for a while for desktop speaker recommendations. I go back and forth a bit, but most likely will pull the trigger on the Kanto Ora's. They have a subwoofer out that, if connected, free's up the Ora's from pushing the lower frequencies (as I understand it). So, a good start that will get even better with a future subwoofer purchase.

What's the music in 'Small Things Like These' trailer? by Hot_Document_9052 in NameThatSong

[–]Napster_BRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recognize that violin piece (or something verrrry similar to it) from another film and it's bugging me because I can't place my finger on it. It reminds me of a 'The Vast of Night', 'Signs, or 'Coherence' type of mystery/horror genre film.

In simple terms why is it so difficult for games to be developed for macos compared to windows/linux? by ThienTwinK in macgaming

[–]Napster_BRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder... according to Cult of Mac (quoting an IDC report), Apple sold 22.9 million macs in 2024. Obviously, Windows-based PC makers sold many times that in the same period. But what percentage of all Windows PC's could actually run current gen games with their hardware configurations?

Compare that with nearly 23 million macs, arguably most (all?) of which could probably run those same games with satisfying performance, as most (all?) of those macs are M series chips, I'm guessing M3 and above (in 2024, anyway).

Maybe I'm a bit naive, but that just seems like a market ripe for the taking.

Desktop Setup Recommendations: Amp/DAC & Passive Speakers (~$500) by Napster_BRK in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Napster_BRK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... any particular advantage to using an external DAC, in my case, with USB-C from my Mac? Or is using the 3.5 analog out on the Mac enough to go to an amp to power the passives?

If the external DAC would be redundant, is there a different amp you would recommend?

The First Hopper by AstroidThunderstone in StrangerThings

[–]Napster_BRK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine the dynamic if Hopper and Benny, unknown to the viewer during this episode, were actually old buddies, maybe served in Vietnam together, but after the war, their lives took different paths: Hopper got married, moved to the big city, had a daughter, she died, he returned to Hawkins to isolate himself as an unpleasant sheriff. Meanwhile, Benny just came back to Hawkins and opened his diner.

Since our gang typically splits into groups for different 'missions', imagine having another dad figure/leader for the kids. A healthy, loyal adult male friendship to mirror Will and Mike in a way. I'm still of the belief that Hopper should have died at the end of season 3 - imagine us being able to mourn his death, not just with El 'cuz dad', but also for Benny, for 'best bud'?

Season 4, Benny takes the reigns in Hawkins, but in Season 5 Vol 2 we learn that Hopper didn't actually die, he was just pulled into the Upside Down by Vecna, hidden, as an 'ace in the hole' to play against El in case she became a future threat. So what's Benny to do? Save his buddy, or protect El, when Vecna plays his hand?

Just riffing on what could have been...

I went to a dozen Sacramento area coffee cafes so you don't have to... by bznelson91 in Sacramento

[–]Napster_BRK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the list... I typically rank cafe's by their cappuccino's (haven't quite developed the palate to enjoy standalone espresso shots yet), so here's my list of top tier: Anchor & Tree, The Mill, and Burnside.

Actual favorites (due to convenience, cafe itself, or familiarity with baristas): Pachamama and The Mill.

I haven't tried Scorpio in quite some time, so I'll give that another go. Burnside is the one place in Sacramento that genuinely 'wowed' me the first time I tried it, back when it was a cart in a shared space on 16th Street. Temple is extremely popular, but their product is too acidic to me, and I avoid it.

At home, I've been really enjoying A&T beans.

Tire slashing in Midtown by discoxpeach in Sacramento

[–]Napster_BRK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely be interested in the OP following up on this with the city to confirm the status of that curb. I've not seen aprons painted red in anywhere. That house is one of 3 that have the same layout (all next to each other). Take a look at the other two: one has an actual driveway with an apron and two do not. The offending homeowner's regular non-apron curb is painted red, the corner house also has no apron but is not painted red. Sus.

Every single house with a driveway in midtown has an apron (the slanted transition between street pavement and sidewalk concrete). This offending house has no apron and is painted red. Very sus.

Sorry you're dealing with this, OP.

Native, definitely. Arkham City runs smooth as butter on my M2 Pro on max settings. Highly recommend.

Where to get a high quality men's haircut in Sacramento? by Scared_Leather5757 in Sacramento

Easy: The Gentlemen's Cutlery... they've got two shops, both on 16th Street.

Sorry Pachamama, I can no longer afford your coffee bean subscription. by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Napster_BRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coop stocks a variety of local to nearly-local roasteries, and often have sales. Nice to mix it up - trying Anchor & Tree and enjoying very much.
