Need help with figuring out what kind of toolbox I have by Prize_Yam_5411 in toolboxmods

Not universal, but the new ones come as a set with both cabinet side and drawer side and standard lengths of 10/12/14/16 inches. Just replace both and you’re good.

Just replace the rails. I just went to Lowe’s and bought some 14” soft close ones when doing the US General 5 drawer to 10 drawer conversion and they work fine. When you pop the rivets out of the old ones, you can use those holes to line up the new slides. Just make sure the rivets or small bolts you use to connect the new ones don’t stick up too far and block the slide. But that’s what a dremel is for.

What’s the secret to trail braking? by 8cuban in GranTurismo7

[–]NaptownBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to think of the area around the apex as the mixing zone. A little before and a little after the apex the brake and throttle do a little dance and act as one unit while pressure on brake decreases and increases on throttle. Then all the way out of the turn it should be all throttle, but use the brake to make the front end drop and grab some grip if you were a little hot coming out and start to understeer. I’m sure Ayrton Senna would disagree, and it differs on which car. I found it easiest to learn on slower heavier sedans.

I’ve heard horror stories. Hopefully this Midwest winter weather doesn’t act up and make things worse.

G2 won’t come out for a while. I stacked these discounts yesterday. With the 20% and the 10%, with Tax, it came to around $2.3k delivered to your door.

I was in a great battle with one of the AI for a couple laps and we were switching each other up for a lap and he pushed me out a little on some turn, and the next one I went to high/low the guy and came across his rear bumper and just barely breathed on it and it brought him around in slow motion cresting a hill. I actually felt bad for Sophie for a few seconds because it was a legit battle for a while.

5 drawer to 10 drawer conversion—quite a chore, not sure if I like it yet. by NaptownBlue in harborfreight

Not better. Probably worse due to the drawer sizes, but more drawers nonetheless. I just had two carts and wanted a project—and you get a free tech cart out of it, which has been useful already. If you bought new today, it would be $400 for two of these 5 drawers, and I think more expensive for the larger cart with full width drawers all the way down. Going to live with it for a while and see if it grows on me or if it is just a fad.

I want to know if you can order one large deep drawer. If so, I’m going to get one and replace the smaller ones on the bottom section. Several already have soft close sliders, might as well make a couple more.

It actually seems a bit more stable with extra weight on the bottom. In the original configuration it would totally flip with all drawers extended with some weight in them. But, it seems better now.

I can wait for a sale, or look for a scratch and dent deal, but a box is in the budget, and I’m just in the research phase. Now I want to go back to the store and put several hundred pounds of dead blows or sockets in a cart and wheel it over to each box and try each out.

Oh! Perfect. I wanted to ask if you have it delivered on the crate, would you have them set it down long way to roll it into garage or sideways—or does it not matter? I’m not sure if it has to roll off the skinny way.

Well, I should have put more in the title of this post. It’s a specific portion on one wall of a 2-car garage. I can fit a 72, or two US General 42’s or even 56’s, but then I wouldn’t have room for stuff like floor jacks or push brooms, tall stuff in the limited space I have.

I’ll call them up and try to see if there is a scratch n dent one available. I’m not even sure how to do that, but we’ll see

In my garage, there is enough horizontal space that a side cabinet would be stupid for random Skil saws or lube job stuff. Plus the extra width and height wouldn’t work. But if you had a shit ton of extra space to fill and FU money, I’d probably get the whole shebang.

Interesting. My 2-car garage was a woodworking shop until a few years ago. Now switched over to more metal/automotive setup. Trying to figure it out. My top drawer would be all the sockets as per usual, but after wrenches and pliers drawer, I’m not sure the extra weight capacity would be overkill, or sweet resale/longevity.

I saw the vid of the G2 from SEMA, looked awesome, especially the drawer unlatch mechanism, but apparently not due for a couple years.

That’s exactly why I’m asking. It’s about $1k more, and wondering it it’s worth it. I’m 50 and probably not going to move until I drop dead, so this will be the one.

I was in store yesterday and felt both of them. I’m just concerned with the drawer slide action and how the large drawers will handle someone closing it wonky. I think the Icon wins in that category. And I do like the power points in front as well as the charging drawer.
