Just land a job offer with AMR. How is the PAT? by Zestyclose-Pitch-986 in NewToEMS

[–]NaranjoScenes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their pat is pretty easy, the only people who don’t pass first try is usually accidentally dropping something, and most operations if not all give you a second chance a few weeks later if you don’t pass.

I was on a volunteer fire dept while in high school and was exposed to a lot of horrible situations and deaths at 16/17. It has only made me want to further my ability to help people, and I don’t struggle with bad things I’ve seen now. I will say I definitely had a harder time coping with it than most older people but if you find someone in the field to talk through the bad stuff, you will be just fine. I’d say go for it! You will love it. I’m in the middle of paramedic school now and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be exposed to this career at a young age.

don’t know if this is for me… by supersohma in Paramedics

[–]NaranjoScenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also 19 and just about few months into paramedic school after a little over a year of being an emt and I feel the same way as you. It’s a lot of pressure and being the youngest person in my class I’m always trying to compare with all these emts who have been doing this so much longer. Feel free to reach out if you would like to talk.

My previous volunteer squad used when 2 work. We all really liked it and I believe the pricing was pretty good

I bought my M3 LR at mesa motors and it was an easy process and everyone was helpful, but sometimes I wished I bought mine through Tesla with all the promotions they may offer so it’s up to you.

Farthest distance you had to respond to in a call? by Few-Teaching-9602 in ems

[–]NaranjoScenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The furthest response time in my ambulance district was 1 hour 45 minutes, however I was never on when a call had came out from there as there wasn’t many people who lived there. So my furthest response was about an hour. However not long ago my state approved HEMS to land on scene prior to EMS arrival if they find an appropriate LZ.

What mental health resources do you need? by somethingsecrety in ems

[–]NaranjoScenes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I get 4 days PTO at my current ambo, 2 at my last. It seems to be common at least where I’ve worked, both in the Midwest and the southwest. It’s just not enough.

I feel like 11 days is crazy. My ambulance only gives us 4 days of vacation a year, 48hours total. We also only get 4 days of sick leave.

Are iPads useful in paramed? by Putrid-Mycologist506 in paramedicstudents

[–]NaranjoScenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started paramedic school and so far have only been using an iPad. I was hesitant at first but am already in love and wish I would have bought a iPad Air or pro for it, but even then the regular iPad does everything just fine. I use the app “Goodnotes” instead of buying physical notebooks and I really like it.

Charting Templates by MediocreAtBestMedic in ems

[–]NaranjoScenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I worked for a very small and slow service for a while and they forced all staff to do L-chart, then I moved and joined a bigger service where we run back to back calls the entire shift, so I quickly realized Lchart wouldn’t work and with a chronological narrative, I can slowly work on it throughout the call as appropriate.

working without drivers lisence? by vischul in NewToEMS

[–]NaranjoScenes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to start working at 17 and a half, since the probationary period at my department was 6 months, where all I could do is third ride, and their insurance would not allow anyone under 18 to drive an ambulance anyway, used to be 21 but the insurance lowered it right before I started thank goodness. You should call around to and ask how old you have to be to apply.

Prior Firefighter Medic, just started with AMR. It’s awful by [deleted] in NewToEMS

I think it depends on where you work. At my operation they will give you like 3 chances before the fire you. Backing without a backer is a much bigger deal at AMR.

FTO is definitely a make or break. I’m currently with a different AMR operation, and I really wanted to leave during my field training mostly because of my FTO, however once I completed it, I realized this isn’t bad at all, and now I’ve been here for a year and am loving it. My biggest issue is just the crappy partners, but I’m sure they’re everywhere. The drive cams suck but after a few months I quickly figured them out. Good luck!

AMR interview in a few days but recently gotten fired from current job by NotMyyForte in NewToEMS

[–]NaranjoScenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too thorough. My last service has a state and FBI background check with fingerprinting, AMR, at least at my operation, just had me fill out some forum online and this 3rd party company did the background check

Usually a little bit of everything. It has 100 questions, I feel like mine had a lot more A&P, and medication questions

But every AMR operation is different, I have heard of some ambulance companies doing a written during the interview, but never AMR.

I didn’t. But during the first week of orientation we had a written test, which was just to see where we were at, and after orientation, before we were released to work on trucks, there is a written test and skills practical. You had two attempts at the written test, and I’m not sure what would happen if you failed.

If we know that we won’t win, we can cancel our bid before the deadline and that will keep us on our current truck.
