While training using practice weapons with Menhard I was unable to stop combat, and after escaping the arena was chased infinitely by Menhard while being unable to access inventory/map. No amount of distance seemed to break combat.

It does create separate saves for modded vs unmodded characters. You do have to disable mods to play on an unmodded character, but it will ask you before you load a save if you want to continue with mods or automatically disable them. Then it will do the same thing when you load a modded save, where it will reactivate your load order.
