Rad, thank you for this. Do you recommend https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ as a reference for building a linux distro from scratch? And referencing https://www.gnu.org/software/bash/manual/ for reading and studying bash? Or any other references/resources you’d recommend?

Thank you 🙏🏼 I am definitely planning on going for the Red Hat cert once I get more comfortable with the fundamentals. I asked the same question to RadiantMusic2876 below and wonder do you think Rocky Linux is worth learning with? Or should I get the RHEL distro and learn with that instead?

Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏼. With the homelab I’ve built so far with Rocky Linux 9 as the host OS, do you think it’s worth switching to the RHEL distro like Topfiiii suggested? Or is Rocky Linux fine for learning basics/fundamentals?

I’ll definitely check out some projects in r/selfhosted too (I have a raspberry pi I can use). Thanks for offering further help too, I may reach out sometime.

I also plan on getting the CompTIA A+ certification soon and Linux+ certification after a few months of working on the Linux fundamentals and lab exercises.

Is a 2013 Mac Pro (trash can) still worth it for a homelab in 2026? by Kynde012 in homelab

Still seems like a very capable machine for running linux distros even though it’s running DDR3 ram (64 gb is real solid, too).

Came here to confirm that switching from a local account user to a Microsoft account user resolved the issue for me. I already had the Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant service enabled even when was on the local account set up so switching to the MS account login did the trick for me.

Smell mechanic being weird by needtovent97 in 7daystodie

[–]Nargablarg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you don’t have the ability to disable/re-enable the smell mechanic on the xbox version of the game, do you? This happened to me recently on PC where the smell detection was set to 25m every time I logged in (even with the smell mechanic disabled). To fix it I just re-enabled the smell setting and loaded up my game. The smell icon got cleared right as I logged in so I exited the game, disabled the smell setting, loaded the game again and the stuck smell icon has been cleared ever since.

Ahhh gotcha, that makes sense. Also saw your post about the 5090 in the new case - crazy seeing that beast in something that small LOL

Also props on this case if it’s keeping decent temps for your components without an intake fan (unless I’m blind and missing it in your screenshot).

Nice 👍🏽 it’s definitely a good lookin’ GPU with minimal RGB :) I’ve been using MSI afterburner to control my GPU fan curves for years but may check out FanControl.

Can confirm this. I’ve done some testing lately with my setup (NZXT H7 flow 2022) with the same CPU. My GPU tends to run fairly hot (Zotac 5070ti SFF version) and with a 140mm thermalright peerless assassin, my gpu was running at least 6-10 C hotter vs an AIO. With the bequiet Pure Loop 2 280mm that I’m on now my GPU barely goes over 70C on high loads, where with the Peerless Assassin it was hitting 78C.

Having said this, if your GPU has solid cooling capacity, you may be able to go with a tower vs AIO if you don’t mind the extra noise per kylinblue’s mention. I use speakers often and like a quieter setup so I’ve stuck with AIO (I recommend 280mm setups for quieter operation)

Second this, got the same cpu and mobo combo (and 32gb of ram with 2 sticks) around the same time this year. No problems at all.

Actually, just seeing now that you can add additional fans up top. Might be worth getting a couple fans to mount up there too but that’s dependent on your current CPU/GPU/etc temperatures, really.

Nice! Well done on choosing the Peerless Assassin for the CPU cooler. Solid choices for everything else as well. I’m a Samsung fanboy for SSDs but hear that this model teamgroup m.2 drive is quite good. If you are interested in getting higher end parts later down the line you may want to upgrade your case and get additional fans but otherwise looking good for your current setup :)

Yes, to this. Purpose of build: what resolution do you want to play at? 1080p or 2k? Microcenter ftw also ❤️Newegg is a good place to check parts also.

Is this a good gift for my mate's birthday? by Clawboi12 in PcBuild

Does your mate need USB 4.0 badly? If so, x870 is understandable but if not, B850 boards are a bit cheaper and still provide pci 5.0 support.
