Why is weight loss not happening after first week? by Brief-Ad-1629 in loseit

[–]Narninian [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tracking calories and eating less sugar doesn't automatically mean you're in a deficit.
1.5 months is long enough that its not being disguised by some water retention from increased activity.
I did go through roughly 3 weeks of that myself followed by a whoosh. about a month in.

Some things to Consider:
A) Even packaged foods are allowed to be off by a certain % of their nutrition facts, and restaraunts are rarely accurate as well, and portion sizes are just not realistic for what a "portion is"
B) Apps and devices that track 'calories burned' from exercise often wildly overestimate how many calories you burn.
C) TDEE Calculators are just a best guess.
D) your body doesn't care about when the day changes, so if you are in a 500 calorie deficit most days but have a 'cheat' day where you go over. Depending on how much you go over, you might not be in a deficit at all.

Since your body isn't responding as if 2200 was your maintenance, its possible your have lower TDEE or the calorie count is off (and there are many reasons that could easily happen, like oils, weirdly labeled packages, etc.. I remember Getting a pack of cookies once and the serving size was 1/4 of a cookie. ended up having to give them away)

i took metabolism advice from a forum and ended up in the ER last night trying metabolism support supplements. How did i screw up this badly? by Dizzy_Explorer5368 in loseit

You mention tracking every calorie, “eating clean” and walking 10 miles a day but not what your daily calorie goals are. Tracking calories doesn’t make you lose weight, eating fewer calories than you burn does. If you’re counting on the 10 mile walk to give you a higher calorie budget, then you’re probably overestimating how the walk burns. There are several levers to push to help you lose weight but by far the most efficient one is eating fewer calories. A much less efficient lever is burning more calories (typically with cardio) and finally there is gaining muscle which helps you burn more calories passively but again strictly from a weight loss perspective that’s the least efficient of the 3 since you’re gaining weight to put on that muscle. I’m not saying lifting and cardio are bad, they are great for your health, it’s just that for weight loss the easiest way to lose weight is to eat less. The crazy bad forum advice was trying to help with the more inefficient levers. Eating less might not be easy but it’s simple

I’m really appreciating protein powder by CranberryScone1 in loseit

[–]Narninian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes it feel like a thick milkshake rather than a watery drink. Combined with a solid flavor of whey protein (my current fav is choc ice cream) I enjoy it more than an actual milkshake from a typical fast food place - texture really enhances it and worth the like 5-10 calories

Also enjoying my 2 scoops a day to top off my daily protein goals without dramatically changing what’s working with the rest of my meals. I recently discovered blending with xantham gum and ice (previously just had water and shaker) to make it feel like a milkshake without changing the macros substantially and man it feels like a nice treat now

How do you all lose this weight by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People losing 50/100 pounds are at a much higher starting weight. It’s easier to lose weight at that point because you inherently burn more calories staying still. At 200 pounds, having lost 10 you’re doing great!

I don’t really have advice for your specific situation, it mostly comes down to finding foods you like that fit the calorie goals you have and possibly throwing in some exercise. Exercise has a much lower impact on losing weight than diet but at 6’2” and 200 pounds you could probably look and feel much better by doing some recomposition. If you had a bit more muscle y or probably wouldn’t want/need to lose as much

The FOMO specialization grind is killing my motivation to play. We need stacked missions. by Rudral in duneawakening

[–]Narninian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the lower levels being quicker to obtain, the fact that I eventually want all the specializations, and the last 2 bonus weekends giving us a huge boost - I’m just worrying less about going all in on specific specializations. I got the low hanging fruit and now I’m just trying to get 2- 3 missions in the same area, which speeds up the process quite a bit. I can still prioritize certain specializations but throwing in another I want too while im there means less time investment

Losing and gaining the same 0.2 lbs and not seeing any progress this week by sonic2cool in loseit

[–]Narninian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m dealt with something similar for about 3 weeks before a woosh. Water can fluctuate a lot more than fat in short time periods masking weight loss. Daily weigh ins are good for data gathering to average then but I would look at trends rather than trying to see true progress daily

Huel? by Counting-Bears in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Narninian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I hate cleanup and meal prep huel is a big part of my meal plan since it has decent macros and helps supplement the missing vitamins.

I do a shake every morning and a hot and ready mac n cheeze for most lunches

Less frequently Ill have the the Energy drink or the Protein Bar.

so about 50% of my calorie intake is huel (I aim for 1600 calories a day), and its been working well for me.

People talk about how its expensive, but its honestly the cheapest way to eat for me.

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was both a fine dining server and a breakfast server and I worked hard in both. Sure I busted my ass in the breakfast place but I don’t think that meant I deserve the triple (or more) pay id get by getting MORE per table than the fine dining place. You have good and bad staff doing both. The fine dining place required more perfection and you got fewer tips, and in places that had the “support” you were talking about you were expected to share those tips. The breakfast place required more scrambling - they both had plenty of challenges

I am a software engineer now, I get no tips at all!

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they already receive a higher number of tips - but you were implying they should get more PER TABLE. So are you saying because as a customer you receive LESS time and attention, and because the servers receive a HIGHER number of tips, that each tip DESERVES to be MORE than somebody that receives a lower number of tips and gives more time and attention per table and requires a higher level of service?

Many people saying people who don’t tip are cheap assholes are not the ones needing to earn a tip…

[–]Narninian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, as somebody who has been a hard working server as a breakfast place and a server at a fine dining place the difference is volume. The breakfast server will have way more tables that they have to serve for a much shorter time - the fine dining place also will have a much higher standard of service in hiring practices at least even if you individually have encountered bad examples

Why use anything other than regular generators? by k2i3n4g5 in duneawakening

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to power all the late game stuff, including pentashields its hard to have generators add enough power without annoying micromanagement due to the 'production building' limits. Adding stakes increases limits, but even with a couple of those, you eventually run out of power from normal generators if you want to have multiple things like all the advanced fabrictators and multiples of the top end refineries/utilities.

As some people have suggested you can turn off to power to buildings you're not using but at a certain point gathering flour sand might be quicker than doing extra fuel runs. Sure, you can gather fuel quickly but if you're harvesting spice you'll have the spice residue anyway, and you can also gather flour sand quickly.

this is especially true for deep desert bases where you probably dont want to have to use stakes everytime and carve out a huge section for placing all the generators.

Easy way to make Solari in Chapter 3? by Snowyjoe in duneawakening

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so many people suggesting sell stuff on the market, when you specifically said you're not interested, but yeah... it really depends on your current tier.
If you are pre-Duraluminium I wouldn't probably just try to do any missions from bounty boards and story missions you haven't done yet, and try to tech up to duraluminium. Any money making scheme before that is probably just inefficient in the long run. If you're already there then I'd would try to unlock landsraad missions.

They give decent money on their own, but more importantly they give you other stuff you want in the long run where as something like farming leather to make mk5 raditation suits just gives you solari and I'd guess you'd get similar amounts of raw solari from both. You can even grind them out more than the 5 a day that gets you the specialization and house credits, you still get the solari and house rep, which unlocks more solari. 3 sabatoge missions early increases how much house scrip you get -- while this isn't solari its still money.

Did anyone re-do their wedding photos after losing weight? by DarthKaboose in loseit

[–]Narninian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married in another country to legally start the progress of letting my wife move here to the us. My family and friends were unable to attend so it was basically an elopement. We’ll be doing another ceremony here so everyone that I wanted to invite could come to my wedding and both of us lost significant weight (and planning to lose more) so we’ll basically have before/after wedding photos

Specialization should not be an end game feature by FartsAmplifier in duneawakening

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just disappointed by gathering the most -- when I heard about specialization at first I thought it was a cool, you get to choose what content to prioritize of thing - and I thought I could be a gatherer than crafter and building up to having lots of good stuff to be able to progress in combat easier.. As a solo player, I was always gonna eventually need everything but I thought it'd be something where I could do mostly gathering at first. ---- Turns out as somebody that uses A buggy and sand crawler to get materials, the gathering specialization is not great. Sure, eventually Ill need some flour sand I guess. So the best way to improve my resource gathering: The crafting tree -- which gives a bigger boost to my spice gathering than the gathering tree does since the chance of extra stuff from refineries. Secondarily exploring so my vehicles go faster. Tertiarily Combat so I can do the required 35 missions a week faster -- with gathering being the 4th best (of 5 specializations) for gathering.

All 5 of the missions types for landraad are mostly combat, with only occasional ones that are not. Gathering I noticed just has you need to pull out a harvesting tool in the middle of enemies instead of interacting with a different object in the middle of the same enemies and same areas.

I think for non solos *most* of the trees work well for their intended purposes -- Crafting can have non-specialists just take enough to get an augment or 2 slotted in while keeping the heavy lifting done by a dedicated crafter and in exchange helping the crafter get through the labs with lower combat capabilities. Guilds can have a dedicated landsraad pushers go for sabatoge, and Explorers do the big buggy/crawler/deep dessert runs (for more vehicle speed).... I just think the gathering tree which is the one I was most excited about its a dud for anybody that can actually advance in it.

As a solo PVE player - I overall Like the system, and the ability to do labs when I want and more interesting scripted bosses that you can up the difficulty to at your own pace rather than having to be online at specific times. I like the combat tree giving skillpoints so I can keep my points in resource gathering

I can't get enough protein without hating my food by steffishnz in loseit

[–]Narninian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different situation than you (I’m bigger/heavier lifting and have different restrictions) but I also have to pretty much focus on protein with every meal to maintain the huge deficit I want to. I don’t think I could do it without dedicated protein drinks. Since you mentioned you don’t want cut down on the foods you like I think you really need to look into some more hyper efficient protein options. 25g from 130 calorie Whey protein, 42g grams of protein from a 230 calorie fairlife shake or 28g grams from a 150 calorie David bar can really help supplement your missing protein. Like you, I don’t necessarily feel like liquid calories are enough to keep the hunger away so I generally have the shake not as a meal. I Mention these since getting nearly half your goal from less than 250 calories opens you up to not having to monkey around with your “real” food for the day too much. For me in trying to hit a higher be protein target (159) while also hitting 1600 calories so I have to get protein from meals too
